Potatoes are considered by many as the second bread. This vegetable is especially important in Belarus, because it is not just eaten there, but is grown there, moreover, in considerable quantities. In Russia, the potato has a slightly different attitude. At least, he does not cause such fanaticism. As a real Belarusian I will say that we really have potatoes - everything is for the head. If it is not on the table, consider, it will be hard to eat with difficulty. And on macaroni, buckwheat and rice you will not last long. Again, I can not promise to speak for the whole world, but we in Belarus believe so.

Do not want to dig into when the first time the potatoes hit our table. It is only known for certain that she was brought to Europe at the time of Christopher Columbus's discovery of America. It is also unclear why the Belarusians, and not the inhabitants of some other country, fell in love with potatoes so passionately. Grow it everywhere, but in Belarus, I repeat, the attitude towards it is completely different.

One of the most common dishes that are prepared from potatoes are draniki. They fry in a hot frying pan, and as a "test" for them serves as a potato, previously rubbed on a fine grater. I offer you a universal recipe for potato pancakes. Sweat, of course, have, but only a little.

How to cook potato pancakes

It is interesting that the potatoes grown by Byelorussians contain much more starch than the Russian one. That's why, when kneading dough on draniki, do not add the same flour or starch. You see, if you notice that the dough turns liquid, then certainly you need to add a little flour or starch. So, here's my recipe for potato pancakes. So to speak, originally Belarusian.

· Peel potatoes. Its amount depends entirely on how much you are going to bake pancakes. If you do this for the first time, then start with a small amount, so to speak, for testing.

· Peeled potatoes should be grated on a fine grater. I will say at once, it is very tedious and long. If there is not enough time, proceed as follows: chop the potatoes in the blender.

Now add salt to taste. All mix well.

· Pay attention to the consistency of the mass. They should not be liquid, as the glorified draniki can not be cooked from it. You already know what to do for this.

· That's all, most of the work is done. It remains only to start baking our draniki.

· To do this, heat the pan in which the vegetable oil is already poured, warm it and use a spoon to spread our potato shingle on it. Depending on the size of the frying pan at a time, you can bake 3-4 pancakes.

What do potato pancakes eat with?

So, you already remember the recipe for potato pancakes. There is nothing complicated in it. It remains to understand, but with what can you eat draniki. The simplest, serve them with sour cream. We still eat them with jam, and also prepare a special roast (mochanka). To cook the last, you need to take a small piece of fat and meat. Cut the lard and meat into slices and put it in a frying pan. When the food is almost ready, add the chopped onion and wait until it turns golden. To mochanka it turned out even more tasty, you can add a little butter to it. In our family draniki still like to eat with fried eggs.

The recipe for potato pancakes is not the only one. The one I gave you is the simplest. By the way, the same draniki in Ukraine are called deruns, and in the Czech Republic something like that is bramborakami. But the Jews from grated potatoes are prepared latkes, however, in shingles they still add a few pieces of eggs. Preparation of potato pancakes is a somewhat painstaking process, but the time and effort it takes are worth it.
