Rechargeable batteries: operating principle, features, disadvantages

Batteries are used today in many types of equipment. But they have one serious drawback: after a complete discharge they should only be discarded. Trying to recover is not worth it, this is a dangerous thing.

They are replaced by batteries. They are increasingly replacing the usual. The market is represented by a large number of these batteries: batteries Varta, Bosch and others.

We will consider finger and small fingers. By the method of manufacture, they are divided into two types: nickel-metal hydride and nickel-cadmium. The former have a larger capacity. Capacity is a certain amount of energy that a battery can accumulate and store in itself. Cadmium has a strong memory effect, and this is their drawback.

The inability of the charging element to completely fill the desired capacity, if it was not completely drained before, is called the memory effect.

When you first use it, you need to fully charge it and then completely disconnect it.

Nickel-metal hydride batteries do not have a memory effect and have a large capacity, compared to nickel-cadmium batteries. Such cells are charged much longer. When used in frost, their capacity is greatly reduced. Ni-Cd have no such drawback. They are not affected by work at low temperatures. Ni-MH systems are able to charge as much as possible after several full charge and discharge.

To properly fill with such batteries, you need to buy a suitable charger. The feeding time is indicated in the table, which is placed directly on its surface. If there is no recording, you need to perform the calculation yourself: the battery capacity is multiplied by 1.4 (factor), the resulting result is divided by the current that the charger issues (this data is indicated on the package).

Today, a large number of "charges" are represented on the market. Protozoa are distinguished by low cost. The middle type already has some additional features. For example, many are equipped with a built-in timer that turns off the charging element after a full capacity set. There are devices and so-called comfort-class. As a rule, they go on sale with power supplies. They charge batteries of any shape. They themselves can determine the type of the charged element, calculate the capacitance, determine the current strength and, after full charging, turn off themselves. Devices "luxury-class" are of high cost, have the ability to connect to a computer, display all the data of the charged element. Also have many other functions, the "turbo" mode will allow charging the batteries within 40 minutes. With the help of a gentle mode, you can give life to a worn-out power pack (low current increases the time of electricity supply, prolongs the life of the charged device).

The best rechargeable batteries, perhaps, are those that have more capacity. Everyone can choose what he needs.
