Primrose primrose: Description, growing from seeds at home

The primula of the circumcision is a perennial potted plant that blooms almost the whole year. The large, fleecy leaves of this flower gather into a luxuriant rosette, on the top of which the umbrellas of the inflorescences of tender pink, white, purple are located. Primula is quite a capricious character, but despite this, it is very popular in indoor gardening. To date, there are both traditional varieties of primroses, and new Dutch large-flowered hybrids.

This article will describe in detail what the primrose is. Cultivation from seeds at home and proper care of the plant will also be the focus of our attention.

Variety description

The habitus, the duration of flowering and certain nuances of agrotechnics, the primroses of the circumference, put it on a par with pelargoniums and senpolias.

The circumference itself is a small pot plant, about 30 cm high. In fact, it is considered a perennial, but the most abundant flowering manifests in the first year, so in practice it is grown as an annual or biennial culture. This herbaceous plant has a rather luxuriant rosette with large velvety leaves. The shape of the leaves is rounded, the edge is wavy. Leaflets are located on long, pubescent petioles. Flowering begins about the 5th month after sowing seeds. At this time, a rose with 8-10 leaves appears near the flower.

The primula of the circumcision is a large-flowered member of the family (diameter of flowers is 6-8 cm). Flowers gather in colorful umbrellas with long stems and rise above dark green leaves. At the same time, up to 10 peduncles appear in one plant. If the seed was sown in the summer, the blossom will blossom continuously from February to May, after which there will be a summer break, and the flowers will appear again in the fall, last until December.

Biological features of the variety

The successful cultivation of this room beauty will largely depend on the knowledge of some biological features of the species:

  • In nature, this grassy plant prefers the lower tier of the subtropical flora, the slopes of the hills, the banks of the reservoirs, so it is good for bright, but diffuse sunlight, moist soil and good aeration of the root system.
  • The obkonic (primrose primrose) grows well in loose nutrient soil with a weakly acidic reaction. The substrate for the obkonic is prepared from peat and leaf earth - these components regulate acidity.
  • Despite the fact that the plant belongs to the subtropical flora, it grows well in moderate warmth and even coolness (15-17 degrees). This temperature is necessary primrose, to adapt to the light regime of our band.
  • Primula of the obconifer differs from other primulas in that for the formation of buds it does not need cold temperatures and rest. If you provide her with appropriate care, she can blossom all year round - in winter and autumn on a windowsill, in summer and in spring - on a flower bed or on a balcony.

It is important to remember that the circumcision can cause an allergic reaction. However, it is not considered poisonous. When it is bred, it is not recommended to put the flower in a bedroom or a nursery.

Primrose: growing from seeds at home

They grow the primrose from the seed. From the moment of sowing to the beginning of flowering, it takes about six months. Sprout seeds in a special soil from a mixture of turf and sand. Sow the seeds directly on the surface of the soil, not pouring over the top. The container should then be covered with glass and regularly sprayed with soil. If the optimal temperature regime (20-22 degrees) is maintained, the shoots will appear after 2-3 weeks. After that, they need to be put in a bright place, and the temperature is slightly lowered.

When the first real leaves appear, seedlings can be dived. The distance between them should be 3-4 cm. Thus they will grow until they become cramped. Then the second picking is carried out, the seedlings of the primrose of the circumcision at this time settle down after 8 cm. When after the second picking the plants will again become cramped (leaves of neighboring plants will close), they can be transplanted into a pot. Now you can start to feed the flower. To do this, use a solution of bird droppings, mineral fertilizers or a solution of mullein.

So the primula of the window is grown. Reproduction of an adult plant can occur in two ways: by cuttings or by dividing a flower. It is produced between the flowering of the window.

New varieties

To date, the most common is the obcone, derived by Dutch breeders. But old varieties that cause allergies are replaced with new improved varieties and hybrids.

1. Variety Touch me ("touch me"). The flowers of this primrose variety are distinguished by their large size and variety of colors. But most importantly its difference - this primrose is safe for health, it does not cause allergies. The peak of flowering is in spring and autumn.

2. Libre F1 - this sort of primrose also does not cause allergies, since it does not distinguish a prima. In this group of 9 different shades of colors, especially the orange blossom and two-color flowers stand out.

3. Grace - a large-flowered compact plants with various bright hues: white, blue, pink, red, purple.

Care

Primula is considered a very capricious domestic plant, but if you know that you love the primula of the window, how to care for the flower correctly, it can even be called unpretentious.

For the planting of the window, a light loose mixture is prepared, which includes various soil components: acid peat, turf and leaf earth, coarse-grained sand. You can buy ready-mixed soil.

The location of the flower also matters. Considering that the primula of the windowhead prefers to grow under diffuse light, it must be removed from direct sunlight. For example, it can be placed on a table next to a window or on a balcony, where it is obscured by larger plants.

In winter, the primrose is placed on the windowsill of the southern or eastern window. There it is enough light and the temperature is just below room temperature. The ideal temperature for the primrose of the window is 16-18 degrees. If the room is warmer, then intensive growth of leaves begins and buds will not form.

It is very important to monitor the watering of the window, especially during flowering and budding. Watering should be moderate, while water should not fall on the leaves.

This beautifully flowering plant is very fond of feeding. You need to feed about 1 time in 2 weeks. At the stage of awakening, when there is a growth of green mass, fertilizers should contain more nitrogen. When the first flower buds appear, fertilizer should contain more potassium to form buds and abundant flowering.

Features of care during and after flowering

During the flowering of primroses, it is necessary to remove wilted flower stalks and leaves in time. Thus, the food is consumed sparingly, and therefore the process lasts a long time.

When the flowering ends, the flower needs to be put into the shade - so it will quickly restore the shape and blossom again.

After 1-2 years, the primrose must be rejuvenated and transplanted.

When the autumn-winter flowering ends, the old leaves need to be cut off and put the pot in a cool place. After this, the plant will grow young leaves, and then the bushes can be divided and transplanted into fresh soil.

Possible diseases

Primula of the obconian often suffers from fungal diseases - in this case, the leaves and roots of the plant decay. Also, a flower can die from viral diseases.

From pests more dangerous are: spider mite, whitefly and thrips. To cope with them will help insecticides.
