Planting of begonia: ways and characteristics.

Begonias are popular with many gardeners in that they grow very fast, from planting to the appearance of the first flowers, it usually takes about 3 months. Therefore, to admire the flowering plants already in the very beginning of summer, it is necessary to start landing in March. Planting begonia, as a rule, does not require special knowledge and skills, the material is planted in the baskets and boxes in which it will grow, as well as in special peat pots, which will then be transplanted to a permanent place of growth. Begonias can be kept at home, and can be planted on their own land, where they will perfectly acclimatize, and will bloom throughout the summer period.

Planting begonias should be carried out in fertile soil with the addition of peat and with good drainage. The soil must be constantly moistened. Begonias do not even like light frosts, and therefore they should be planted on garden beds only after the end of the frost period. It is allowed to take the plants in containers to the street, but with any threat of cooling, immediately bring them into the room. Begonias are not demanding of the light, so it is preferable to plant them in the shaded parts of the garden and keep them on the north side of the house.

Planting begonia with seeds is the most effective method of reproduction. The seeds of begonia are very small, resemble dust, so they are not sealed when sowing. It is recommended that snow be poured on the prepared soil to scatter the seeds of begonia. When melting, the snow will tighten them a little under the soil particles, and the seeds will very well rise. Substrate should be prepared as follows: Leaf land, peat and sand in a ratio of 2: 1: 1 to sift and moisten with a 0.1% solution of potassium permanganate for disinfection. The first shoots will begin to appear as early as 12 days after planting the seeds. They must be kept under glass until the first picking, which is carried out when the first two or three real leaves appear in the crops. The second pick is carried out a month after the first. The advantage of begonia is that at any age it comparatively painlessly tolerates a transplant, during which it is necessary to try not to damage its fragile leaves.

Many gardeners are faced with such a problem as planting a bulb of begonia, so that it has taken root and has not rotted. The planting of begonia by bulbs or tubers requires the initial processing of planting material. Large tubers are cut into pieces, leaving 2-5 sprouts. Slices must be sprinkled with pounded activated carbon and dried. Immediately before planting, they are kept for about two days in a specially prepared solution that stimulates plant growth. The most commonly used solution is Epin. After the bulbs are removed from the solution and planted in the prepared substrate in such a way that they were only half in the ground. Tare should be placed in a warm and bright place and do not water the soil during the first week after the bulbs are planted. During subsequent watering it is necessary to constantly check that the water does not stagnate, otherwise the bulbs will begin to rot and die.

Planting of begonia can also be carried out by spring cuttings. To do this, large healthy tubers harvested in the fall and provide them with a three-month rest period. In January, the tubers are extracted and germinated. Cuttings with tubers can be cut twice, as soon as they appear 3 sheets. At the same time, cutting is allowed only for a stalk with two leaves. The third leaf is left to allow the tuber to germinate again. Sections cuttings powdered with charcoal and planted in the prepared soil, constantly making sure that it was wet. Rooting takes place a month later, after which the plants can be planted in separate pots.
