Planting and caring for onion

Onion is a common and valuable vegetable. The plant is biennial and triennial. In the first year, a small onion is produced from the seeds. Before planting it should be slightly soaked in order for sprouts to appear. In the second year large bulbs grow from the seed, which are used for food, and for the third year the plant gives seeds.

Cleaning and storage

Planting onion-seed with seeds is only half the battle. When the shoots of the plant begin to droop, you can start cleaning. To do this, you need to dig up plants and pick bulbs from the soil. Then the leaves and roots are trimmed. Then the sowing is laid out on special areas for drying, and then sorted into groups. The onions are stored in boxes in a dry ventilated place - the layer should not exceed 20 cm. To avoid damage from various diseases and pests, bulbs should be heated for 10 hours at a temperature of +40 ºС. Planting onion-sowing to produce vegetables suitable for consumption, is produced the next year. This method provides good yields.

Planting onions in sevk

This method is the most popular among farmers. Seven soak for 3 days in ordinary water, and then for 16 hours in a weak solution of potassium permanganate. On a carefully prepared soil, it is planted at a distance of 8-10 cm. There should be at least 15 cm between the rows. All care consists in weeding, loosening and watering. When the shoots begin to fall down, the watering stops. Harvest the onion in dry weather, after full lodging and yellowing of the pen. Fruits are pulled out of the ground, roots and dry leaves are removed, leaving a neck about 5 cm. Place the onion on a pad in one layer and leave for 4-5 days to dry. After that, it is cleaned. Store the onions in a dry place in baskets or drawers, in a dry ventilated place. You can weave braids from bulbs and hang them somewhere.

Onion cultivation

Green onions are grown not only in vegetable gardens, but also at home. The onion bulbs are cut and soaked in warm water. Plant close to each other. Can be planted in boxes or pots. At home, the onion is usually grown to produce greens. From seva it turns out more dense and accurate, although it is possible to grow it from ordinary adult bulbs. When seedling emerges, it is better to make thinning, if they grow too thick. Growing onions at home gives fresh greens all year round.
