The drug 'Eutiroks'. Reviews, description, indications

The medicine "Eutiroks" is included in the pharmacotherapeutic group of thyroid drugs. The active ingredient is sodium levothyroxine.

The drug "Eutiroks" (reviews of specialists and information in the instruction confirm this) in small doses has an anabolic effect on fat and protein metabolism. The average doses of the drug have a stimulating effect on the development and growth of tissues, enhance their need for oxygen, activate protein, fat and carbohydrate metabolism, increase the functionality of the cardiovascular system and the central nervous system. Large dosages of the medication "Eutirox" contribute to the inhibition of the production of thyrotropin-releasing hormone in the hypothalamus and thyroid-stimulating hormone in the pituitary gland.

Therapeutic efficacy is observed after seven to twelve days from the start of therapy. After the cessation of treatment, the effect of the medication is maintained for the same period. Optimal clinical efficacy in hypothyroidism is observed after three to five days. The disappearance or reduction of diffuse goiter occurs within three to six months.

When ingested, the absorption of levothyroxine occurs predominantly in the upper part of the small intestine. Absorption is subjected to about eighty percent of the component. The maximum concentration of levothyroxine reaches approximately after five to six hours after use. The half-life of the drug is six to seven days. Against a background of thyrotoxicosis, this period is reduced to three or four days, against a background of hypothyroidism - increases to nine or ten days.

The "Eutiroks" medication (this is confirmed by doctors and patients) is effective in euthyroid goiter, thyroid cancer (after surgery), and diffuse toxic goiter after reaching the euthyroid status with thyreostatics. The drug (as a substitution therapy) is used to prevent recurrence of goiter after resection. The drug "Eutiroks" is also used as a diagnostic tool for testing thyroid suppression.

Medication is contraindicated in untreated hyperthyroidism, hypersensitivity. The medicine "Eutiroks" (reviews of experts are unambiguous in this) is not prescribed for untreated pituitary and adrenal insufficiency.

It is not recommended to start taking the drug in case of acute myocardial infarction, acute myocarditis and pancarditis.

Caution during the appointment is manifested in pathologies in the cardiovascular system, with IHD, angina pectoris, atherosclerosis, a history of anthrax, arrhythmia, hypertension, as well as diabetes, prolonged hypothyroidism of severe course. With malabsorption syndrome, you probably need a dosage adjustment.

Pregnancy and lactation are not contraindications to the use of the medicine. During pregnancy, an increase in the dose of the drug is required. This is due to an increase in the concentration of thyroxine-binding globulin. During pregnancy, the "Eutirox" remedy (expert reviews confirm this) are counter-indicative in combination with thyreostatics. The latter have the ability to penetrate the placenta and provoke the development of hypothyroidism in the fetus.

The content of thyroid hormone in milk is insignificant and can not cause disturbances in a child who is breastfed.

The initial dosage of the drug is 12.5 mcg per day. Every two weeks the amount of the drug taken is increased by 12.5 μg. For convenience, a drug with a different content of the active ingredient in the tablet is dispensed (eg, "Eutirox 50"). This or that kind of drug is prescribed in accordance with the patient's condition. There is a preparation "Eutiroks" 100, 137 and even 150 mkg.

Before using the medication it is recommended to visit a doctor and consult with him.
