Osoka is a grass that grows everywhere

Osoka is a grass that looks very similar to cereals. Only carefully looking closely, you can find the fundamental differences between them. They consist mainly in the fact that sedge - grass, which does not have a hollow stem and nodal thickenings. It has a triangular, rather than a circular cross-section, and its entire core is filled.

Of course, in the fodder balance grass sedge comes only to third place, yielding to the primacy of cereals and legumes. This is because it produces a hard and coarse hay structure, the composition of which does not differ rich in salts, proteins and other fodder elements. And the smell of this hay is not too pleasant - marshy. But this is only in the central zone of our country.

In nature, it is found everywhere, not excluding neither deserts nor tundra zones. Only in Russia sedge - grass, which has more than half a thousand species. In each geo-zone, it has its advantages. In the tundra sedge - grass, which the animals eat all year round, because under the snow cover it lies in green. Ungulates dig it out and eat it in the cold season. They eat it in spring and summer.

Especially valuable is the grass in question in the Ussuri region. Here sedge is rich in protein, so it is very useful for animals. Not rigid, but rather silky it is in the steppe zones. In this area, the grass retains its useful properties in hot seasons. Desert species actively develop only in spring, and then dry up and serve as a forage for sheep and goats. Appetizing for the animal world are mountain sedges. But its marsh species also have their value. After all, they are the basis of peat formation. And desert and steppe species also keep surface soils from erosion. They perfectly fix the edges and slopes of ravines, not allowing them to creep. This grass and nests of waterfowl keep them in the marshes from ruin. After all, no hunters or predatory animals can pass through the barrier of its hard leaves in the quagmire.

But in the decorative meaning sedge - the grass is excellent. Many of its species are specially grown for the decoration of slopes and ravines. In the deep containers is sold such sedges. The photo shows well how her planting material looks like, which will be used in park design. It is actively used in the creation of lawns and compositions that adorn the zones of reservoirs and uplands. It is important to correctly choose not only the external, but also the botanical appearance of this herb.

There are also such kinds of it, from which fibers for weaving are obtained. Of these, yarns or a thin vine are made (depending on the properties). For a long time, soft furniture was stuffed with one of the varieties of sedge, the so-called hare grass. Dried, it becomes soft and silky. The furniture makers combed it and put it into mattresses and sofas.

In ancient Egypt, a special kind of plant was cultivated, from which a remarkable writing material was made. From the long stalks of grass removed the upper peel, which was glued together in long scrolls-papyri, on which the priests wrote their texts. These texts have survived to this day, although it has been forty centuries since they were written. Everything that is in nature has its value. And this fully applies to the growing grass everywhere sedge.
