Opera theater (Kazan): history, repertoire, troupe

Modern TAGTOiB them. M. Jalil was opened in the 30s of the 20th century. Today his repertoire includes operas and ballets. The theater is also the organizer of two international festivals.

History of the theater

The Opera House (Kazan) has deep roots. Even in the 19th century, for visiting tourists, a hall was equipped, which could accommodate 400 spectators. In 1803 a theater building was built, which in 40 years was destroyed by fire. In its place today is the modern TAGTOiB.

The first own troupe appeared in the city in 1874. Her first performance was Mikhail Glinka's opera Life for the Tsar. In the same year the building of the theater burned down. In 1875 it was restored. But in 1919 again burned down. Only in 1934 the Opera and Ballet Theater was established. The building for him was built on the place burned down in 1936. The project was developed by the Moscow architect Skvortsov.

In 1939 the new opera theater (Kazan) was solemnly opened. Its address is Freedom Square, 2.

But the construction was not completed, it continued until 1956. The war was the reason that the building of the building was so long dragged on.

When the construction was finally completed and the theater was opened (in 1956), he was immediately given the name of the famous Tatar poet Musa Jalil. And in 1988 - the status of the academic.

Since 1981 and to this day the director of the theater is Raoufal Mukhametzyanov. He was the first in Russia to introduce a new artistic and administrative model, close to the European one, and a contract system.

The Kazan Theater is one of the largest in Russia. The basis of his repertoire consists of classical productions of Russian and foreign composers, as well as Tatar works.

The theater is unique in that the "main director" has abandoned the formulations here. "Choreographer" and so on. Such a system avoids clashes and conflicts on the basis of ambition and competition.

Since 1994 the theater has been touring Europe every year. Each season lasts from September to July. In February and May the theater holds international festivals - for opera soloists and for ballet dancers.
