At one time, even the "patriarch" puppeteers of Russia - S. V. Obraztsov highly appreciated the original work of the unique troupe of the theater.

The problems of theater

The modern building of the theater was built in the sixties of the last century on the site of the destroyed Greek Annunciation Church, located here since 1909. In the thirties of the XX century it was converted into a children's technical station. The building of the puppet theater was erected on the old foundation of the church, partially used church walls, preserved during the demolition.

In the early 2000s, the idea of evicting a puppet theater from the building that belonged to him was first voiced. She was motivated by the fact that the building of the theater is located on the site of the former church. The city authorities met and provided a place for the construction of a new church, nearby, not far from the public library. However, after some time, the diocese again appealed to the Ministry of Property Relations of the region. This appeal referred to the law "On the Return of Church Lands", and another demand was made to return the building.

In May 2014, at the initiative of the publishing house "Peasants", a collection of signatures of opponents of such a decision was organized. Its purpose was to prevent eviction of the puppet theater from the building. In March 2016 the deputy governor of the region S. Bondarev officially announced that the building of the puppet theater will be transferred to the ROC. The theater must move to the building located on Krasnoarmeyskaya street until the end of October 2019.

I must say that this decision was greeted with grief by numerous spectators and admirers of the work of this oldest theater. The initiative group, consisting of active public figures, believes that the struggle is not over. They are sure that they will be able to protect their favorite theater from eviction.
