Many prefer to glue wallpaper directly on top of their old ones, but to do so is generally not recommended. And there are reasons for this:

- the old wallpaper in itself makes the surface of the walls not ideal, because after pasting new ones all will be visible all the irregularities;

- new wallpaper can be unfastened at any time with the previous ones;

- Under old wallpaper often develops mold and various harmful bacteria, from which you need to get rid of.

Preparation

Before you remove the old wallpaper, you need to take care of all the necessary tools in advance. So, you will need:

- a special liquid designed for easy removal of wallpaper or, at the most extreme, simple warm water;

- 2 spatulas: narrow and wide; It is desirable that they are very sharp, so that they can be ground with emery beforehand;

- if possible, take a steam mop or household steam generator, they will greatly facilitate the work;

- device designed for punching wallpaper (wallpaper tiger or needle roller);

- Painting tape;

- simple polyethylene film;

- a special knife for gypsum board;

- tray and paint roller (a replacement for this can be a sponge with a bucket).

This set of tools may vary slightly depending on the type of wallpaper. But before you remove the old wallpaper, you need to protect the floor from dirt and wet pieces of old wallpaper. To do this, you need to glue a tape of polyethylene to the lower skirting boards around the perimeter of the room. It is important to disconnect all wiring beforehand, because the liquid can get to the bare ends of the wires and cause a dangerous short circuit. All available switches and sockets should be sealed with paint tape, so that dirt does not get inside. And only after that you can safely get down to work.

How easy it is to remove vinyl wallpaper

These wallpapers are most easily separated, because they are a very strong vinyl film, connected to a thick paper base. Before you remove old vinyl wallpaper, use a tiger or a knife to scratch the wallpaper, moisten it with water (abundantly) and leave it for a while, so that the liquid penetrates well into the polymer layer and slightly dissolves the glue.

Then with a knife you need to make a neat horizontal cut and gently separate the wallpaper, pulling lightly over the edge.

Polyvinyl chloride is a fairly strong material, so these wallpapers are always separated by large solid strips and do not tear to pieces. Of course, some fragments of the paper layer may remain on the wall, but they are wetted with water and can easily be removed with a thin spatula.

How to remove old wallpaper - washable and non-woven

Washable wallpaper in its composition have a thin waterproof layer, so to get the liquid inside, special cuts or holes are made. Non-woven wallpaper, however, consists of fine synthetic fibers. They are several times stronger than paper, but when they are removed, there is practically no difficulty. Similarly, holes are made (notches), then the wall is wetted with water. After a while the glue swells, and the wallpaper leaves without problems.

The technology of removing varieties of glass coverings does not differ anything from the removal of non-woven wall backgrounds or PVC wallpaper. Before removing old liquid-type wallpapers, they should be watered with water, then they will be removed, while justifying their name 100%.

It is not so easy to remove wallpaper, it is a time-consuming task that requires special care.
