Cathedrals and churches

In the center of the city there is the largest church - the Basilique Notre-Dame, built in the Gothic style, and on the outskirts of the city, the equally beautiful Church of Our Lady of the Merciful (Notre-Dame-des-Grâces) is built on the outskirts. St. Nicholas Orthodox Cathedral (Cathédrale Saint-Nicolas), which was built after the death of Grand Duke Nicholas (son of Alexander II), is modeled after the Moscow five-domed churches of the 17th century. The square near the cathedral also bears his name.

In the city of Nice, the sights are everywhere: the seaside part of the city is built up with original buildings of the XVII - XVIII centuries in the Italian Baroque style with red roofs - a common phenomenon for the south of the country.

Place Masséna

Walking around the city, it is impossible not to be on the square of Marshal Napoleon's army - Andre Massena. To the left of it are the gardens of the Belgian King Albert I, where you can see the beautiful oasis with a length of two kilometers. Not far from the square stands the Centennial Monument erected in commemoration of the first century after the accession of Nice to France, and from there you can easily reach the Promenade des Anglais - the most beautiful and crowded place in the city, which is proud of Nice. Attractions of this city are attracted by unique sensations that arise, for example, climbing the Castle Hill (Colline du Chateau). On this hill there once was a castle built in the 12th century, but now there are only ruins left of it. But a few observation areas and a recreation park located above the waterfall are worth to climb the hill on foot or on a tourist train that runs from the embankment and passes by Jewish and Protestant cemeteries.

Hotels

If you do not rest, then at least see a luxury hotel "Negresco" is definitely worth it, if only because it is an object of historical significance in France. The hotel, built in neo-classical style, is located on the Promenade des Anglais. The building is notable for the fact that the pink dome of the Royal Salon Negresco (created for Maria de 'Medici) was forged in Gustave Eiffel's workshop , and a four-meter chandelier was installed under it, as in the Grand Kremlin Palace.

All these places have a long history. This is rich in Nice, there are also very young sights, for example, multi-colored lanterns on the central square in the form of people, created by the sculptor Jaume Plens, who symbolize seven continents. In the evening, these figures come in different colors.
