Mucus in the feces of an adult.

At the present time, at the stage of profound knowledge in medicine, the symptomatology of the disease and the subjective feelings of the patient play a huge role, since it is on the basis of these data that a preliminary diagnosis is made. Of course, such a diagnosis requires laboratory or instrumental confirmation. However, even at the stage of setting a preliminary (presumptive) diagnosis, the patient is prescribed an appropriate treatment regimen.

That is why the full picture of the manifestation of the disease is so important. So, in addition to the main complaints that patients present - pain, soreness and others - there is a whole group of signs that characterize the change in the state of the body.

Such characteristics include the nature and frequency of urination, the multiplicity of the stool and its characteristics (color, consistency, odor, presence of impurities of undigested food, presence of blood impurities, presence of mucus).

What are the reasons for the appearance of mucus in the feces of an adult? There are a huge number of diseases, for which a stool with an admixture of mucus is characteristic.

More often than not, the appearance of mucus in the stool can indicate the use of a product that can cause such a reaction of the body.

Sometimes mucus in the feces of an adult occurs in colds and colds. Another cause of mild stool may be the presence of any acute intestinal infection. This is the manifestation of dysentery and some intestinal infections of the viral etiology.

A stool with mucus in an adult long-term nature, especially after a previous illness, accompanied by the use of antibacterial drugs, may indicate the presence of intestinal dysbiosis. By the way, the treatment of dysbacteriosis is very difficult, since the restoration of the proper ratio of the microflora that was in the intestinal cavity is practically not possible. The restoration of the microbial biocenosis in a different ratio leads to a disruption in the digestion of certain substances, as well as a violation of the synthesis of vitamins.

Hyperproduction of mucus leads to some displacement of the water balance in the body, as moisture is consumed by the mucus production. In addition, feces with mucus in an adult, as a rule, are more moistened and the act of defecation is a diarrhea. First of all, this is due to the fact that mucus on the surface of stool hinders the reverse absorption of fluid in the ascending, transverse and descending sections of the large intestine.

In cases where mucus in an adult's feces persists for a long time, and the patient also notes pains in the abdomen, it is necessary to seek medical help from a doctor. After collecting the anamnesis and conducting the basic (general) analyzes, and the same some specific manipulations and diagnostic procedures, the doctor will be able to identify the cause of this disease and make a decision on its elimination (effective treatment).

Often, when a doctor is treated with a complaint about mucus in the feces of an adult, a diagnostically significant and necessary procedure is the sowing of feces for nutrient media. This microbiological study is aimed at establishing a microorganism that causes irritation of the mucosa and hyperproduction of mucus. Having ascertained the type of causative agent of this or that intestinal infection (and in 90% of cases in the presence of mucus in the adult stool it is the intestinal infection), a number of further diagnostic procedures are carried out to find out the strain of the pathogen, and also establish its antibiotic susceptibility. Only after finding out all the necessary features of the microorganism, the doctor can adjust the treatment regimen taking into account the existing sensitivity table of the pathogen to antimicrobial drugs.
