Moscow Ring Railroad and the scheme of the Moscow Railway

The Moscow Ring Railway (MLC) is a railway ring laid along the outskirts of Moscow. In the scheme, the small ring of the railroad of the MKZHD has the appearance of a closed line. The construction of the ring was completed in 1908. Until 1934 the railway was used for freight and passenger transportation, and after 1934 - only for freight. It is the link between the ten departing from the city in all directions by railroads of federal significance. Since September 2016 it is also used for passenger intercity transportation, connected with the functioning of the Moscow metro, which was reflected in the scheme of the stations of the Cherepovets railway.

Modern reconstruction of the railway

From 2012 to 2016, the Moscow Ring Railway was adapted for passenger domestic transportation, which led to a significant change in the scheme of the CZD. The works were carried out for federal funds, as well as for the funds of Russian Railways, private companies and the Moscow government. In the process of reconstruction, the railways were replaced with new ones, bridges were overhauled, electric trains stopping points were constructed, and another route intended for freight traffic was laid. At the end of 2016, the work was almost completed.

A total of 31 stations were reconstructed (the scheme of the MLC with the stations being built is presented above). For each station, its own individual project was developed, platforms were built.

Launch of the first electric trains

The first launch of an electric train in order to check the readiness of the railway was carried out in May 2016 at one of the sections of the CZK, and in July 2016 after the completion of the construction - throughout the railway. The main electric train, plying along the route, was ES2G "Swallow". Also, conventional electric trains of Russian production were used. With their use, there were some problems associated with the discrepancy between the width of wagons and an electric locomotive of classical models with the distance between tracks and the platform on the CZHD. As a result, the platform at Streshnev station had to be shifted slightly to the side.

The first passenger electric train passed through the line on September 10, 2016, after which the passenger train began to be launched regularly. The movement of freight trains was reduced, especially in the daytime, when the trains are active. The line is also used for the movement of individual long-distance trains going around Moscow. The movement of sightseeing trains on locomotive traction was discontinued.

Infrastructure and the scheme of the Railway

The railway ring of the CZHD includes 2 main railway lines belonging to the electrified category. On the north of the ring there is another third railway, which is used for freight traffic. The total length of the railway ring is 54 km. Some sections of other paths are still not electrified.

The scheme of the ICWD is arranged in such a way that it has connecting branches allowing the convoys to move between the ring railway and the radial branches of the federal railways. They consist either of one or two paths (see the diagram of the transshipment of the CZD). Not all of them are supplied with power lines. From the freight tracks of the railway ring there are branches to industrial production facilities. There is also one branch for communication with the tram depot.

In total, on the scheme of the MKZD 31 there is an operating platform for domestic passenger traffic and 12 stations for freight traffic. There is 1 tunnel length of 900 m.

Stations and platforms on the scheme of the CIT

The stations were founded in 1908 and were originally used to work with freight traffic. Between them there were separate semi-stations.

In the inner part of the railway ring there are now not used classical stations with railway station buildings built in the beginning of the 20th century. Previously, the railway track along them was used for passenger transportation. Modern stations can be viewed on the MKZHD scheme with the stations under construction.

On the outside of the CZHD, races have been built for the parking of freight trains and intended for railway construction work. All this is used to form freight trains.

In 2017, the total number of stations used (see the scheme of the stations of the CIT) was 12 units. Of these, 4 are located on sections of branches from the CIT. These include: Novoproletarskaya, Moscow-Southern Port, Northern Post.

On the railway ring there are 31 stations for stopping city electric trains. These stations are passenger platforms that were built during the period from 2012 to 2016 during the modern reconstruction of the CZD. Unlike the stops related to the radial railway main lines, these have the status of intracity and are equipped accordingly. They work as stops of the city transport with uniform tickets for them.

Bridges on the Railway

There are 6 active bridges, 4 of which cross the Moscow River. Also, the CIM crosses 32 highways and railways.

Movement on the COR

At the moment, the traffic on the MLC is carried out by means of electric trains ES2G "Swallow". It consists of 5 passenger cars of modern design, and with a linked version - of 10 cars. In the future, it is possible to use other locomotives (domestic production).

For freight traffic, diesel locomotives are still mainly used. However, the main railway lines are now electrified and allow the use of electric locomotives for transit traffic. Due to this, it is possible to move passenger and freight trains from one transit radial railroad line to another.
