Monasteries of Kiev. Holy Vvedensky and Holy Protection Monastery Monasteries

Virtually all the monasteries of Kiev in their own picturesque, beautiful and unique. Almost all of them are dumb witnesses of those historical events that took place in Kiev over the past one thousand years. Let's start with the transfer from the most famous monasteries - Vvedensky, Ioanninsky Holy Trinity, Holy Protection (Holosiivsky), Holy Trinity (Kitayev Desert) and, of course, the famous Kiev-Pechersk Lavra. Behind them go the most famous women's monasteries in Kiev: Pokrovsky, Florovsky St. Ascension, St. Panteleimon's (Feofaniya). It is impossible to describe each in two lines, we will focus only on two, the history of which everyone can surprise.

Vvedensky Monastery (Kiev)

One of the most beautiful monasteries in Kiev is the male Vvedensky monastery of the UOC (MP). It is located along Moskovskaya Street 42. In 1996 the parish church was reorganized into the Vvedensky Monastery. Kiev is rich in monasteries, but this one is special, and its history is unique.

Egorova Matryona Alexandrovna, the widow of an officer who died in the Crimean War, moved to Kiev from St. Petersburg. She began to buy up all the property in the Pechersk district of Kiev. For 16 years, it almost bought two streets (Moscow and Rybalskaya). In 1877, Yegorova petitioned Metropolitan Philothea to allow him to open a community for 33 widows and orphans.

In 1878 the monastery was opened. But Matrona herself did not become abbess, she took the veil and received the name Dimitar (in honor of St. Demetrius of Thessalonica). In early March 1878, while in St. Petersburg, she passed away. She was temporarily buried in the Alexander Nevsky Lavra, but later, according to her death testament, she was reburied in Kiev in the Vvedenskaya community in the temple-burial vault on the ground floor.

The opening of the monastery

Matron did not live to see the consecration of the temple, which took place on November 14 (27). Hegumenia Evfaliya became the new leader of the community.

On June 17 (30), the monastery church was consecrated in honor of St. Demetrius of Thessalonica. And in 1892 the nun started to lead the community by Cleopatra. By the beginning of XX, the number of nun-sisters reached 118 people.

During the revolution the monastery was closed, the nuns were repressed, and the remains of Dimitar were buried in the Zverinetsky cemetery. For several years the club was located in the monastery building.

All this time the monastery was opened and then closed. Here it should be noted that the monasteries of Kiev have that spiritual power that helps, heals and just leaves no one indifferent. And here is one example of this.

In the fall of 1992, the icon of the Mother of God again appeared in the church, called "Prizri for humility." She was brought by the Shimonokhin of Theodore, she received this holy relic from the priest of the Vvedensky Monastery, Boris Krasnytsky, who was repressed in 1937. Schema-monk Theodora spent 55 years storing the icon in the Florovsky Monastery.

Miracles

A real miracle occurred in early September 1993. On the glass, which covers the icon, suddenly imprinted the image of the Virgin, although the icon did not touch the glass. Scientists have been shown that the image of the Mother of God with the baby on the glass is not made by hand. From the icon itself and from the print, people began to receive healing.

On August 21, 1996, under the guidance and blessing of Metropolitan of Kiev Blessed Vladimir, the relics of the holy nun Dimitry were recovered, which were returned to the monastery from the Zverinetsky cemetery. On April 18, 2008, the nun Dimitar was ranked as a local saint.

Holy Protection Monastery (Kiev)

Another pearl of the monasteries of Kiev is the Pokrovsky Convent of the UOC (MP). It is located at: Bekhterevsky lane, 15. It was founded on January 11, 1989 by the Grand Duchess Romanova Alexandra Petrovna, the wife of the brother of Tsar Alexander II. Being expelled from the house by her husband, she moved from St. Petersburg to Kiev, where she began to create a monastic community. She donated all her savings to the monastery. Over 20 years, about 30 buildings were built. Among them - a shelter for the blind and disabled, an outpatient clinic, a hospital with surgical and therapeutic departments and a free pharmacy.

The chief doctor was Solomka NV, who became the right hand of Princess Alexandra Petrovna. He equipped hospitals with modern equipment. The first X-ray machine first appeared in this monastery, too. The hospital received 5,020 patients, free medicines were given, 2298 operations were performed in surgery. The Grand Duchess very often assisted the surgeons. She went to the Lord in a monastery in mid-April 1900, and her work was continued by others.

Projection

This women's monastery of Kiev occupies an impressive square and unique architecture, made in pseudo-Russian style. Designed by Nikolaev VN The first stone foundation of the cathedral was laid by Tsar Nicholas II, the second - his wife, the Empress Alexandra Feodorovna, and the third - the Grand Duchess Alexander Petrovna herself. The cathedral was built for 15 years. On May 9, 1911, the main throne was consecrated by bishop Pavel Chigirinsky.

The princess herself died from a serious illness, she was buried in a monastery garden near the Intercession Church. A simple wooden cross, made according to the will of the princess herself, was placed above her grave.

In 1925 the monastery was closed. It will be opened only in 1941 with the assistance of the nun Epistemius and Archbishop Anthony (Abashidze). From 1943 to 1948 there will be a hospital and an infirmary here. In 1981, the Cathedral of St. Nicholas was badly damaged by fire, lightning struck the roof, and it caught fire. Then he was repaired for a long time, and he already acquired his original appearance in 2006-2010.

In the 90's according to archival drawings the Pokrovsky temple was rebuilt from the stone, the domes and internal painting were restored. The temple was consecrated in 1999.

In conclusion of the topic I want to note that the monasteries of Kiev have that powerful spiritual energy that attracts and leaves an indispensable desire to return.
