Medication 'Amiodarone'. Instructions for use

The drug "Amiodarone" was previously used only in the treatment of angina pectoris. However, researchers subsequently identified his anti-arrhythmic activity. From that moment, the medicine spread quickly enough around the world. Today, one of the most effective drugs prescribed for the prevention and treatment of arrhythmias is the drug Amiodarone.

Description of the preparation

The drug is available in the form of tablets and a solution for injection (intravenous). The tool "Amiodarone" refers to the antiarrhythmic drugs of the third class. The drug has antihypertensive, beta-and alpha-adrenoblocking, coronarodilating and antianginal action.

Antianginal activity is associated with antiadrenergicheskim and coronary expansive effects, reducing the need for myocardium in oxygen. The drug is able to reduce sensitivity to hyperstimulation in the nervous sympathetic system, tone in the coronary vessels, enhance coronary blood flow, reduce heart rate, and also increase the energy reserves of the myocardium.

Amiodarone is recommended for the prevention and treatment of paroxysmal rhythm disorders: ventricular arrhythmias, life threatening, ventricular fibrillation, supraventricular arrhythmias (most often with the inability or ineffectiveness of another treatment). Indications include angina, parasystole, arrhythmia in chronic heart or coronary insufficiency, ventricular and atrial extrasystole, paroxysm of flutter and atrial fibrillation.

Medication "Amiodarone" instructions for use does not allow for administration with individual intolerance (including iodine), atrioventricular blockade of the second and third degree, sinus bradycardia, interstitial lung diseases, thyrotoxicosis, hypothyroidism, arterial hypotension. The drug is not recommended for lactation and pregnancy, liver failure.

With special care, the drug "Amiodarone" is prescribed in the elderly.

Due to the lack of safety data, medication is not recommended for patients under the age of eighteen.

Among the side effects of the drug "Amiodarone" instructions for use indicates auditory hallucinations, paresthesia, a sense of fatigue, depression, dizziness, weakness, headache. Prolonged reception of the drug can provoke ataxia, extrapyramidal manifestations, sleep and memory disorders, tremor, peripheral neuropathy. To the side effects of the medication "Amiodarone" the instruction for use includes atrioventricular blockade, sinus bradycardia, development or strengthening of existing arrhythmia, alveolitis, dyspnea, cough, pleurisy, pulmonary fibrosis. The medicine can also provoke diarrhea, flatulence, abdominal pain, anorexia, a violation or loss of taste, vomiting and other undesirable manifestations. With the development of thyrotoxicosis, the drug must be discontinued.

Coping (eliminating) acute rhythm disorders is carried out by intravenous injection. The dose is then set at a rate of five milligrams per kilogram of weight, for patients with heart failure in the chronic stage - 2.5 milligrams per kilogram.

The drug "Amiodarone" in tableted form is recommended for oral administration before meals. Dosage on the average - 0,6-0,8 g for two or three doses. After five to fifteen days, the dose is reduced to 0.3-0.4 grams per day. After the patient is transferred to supportive treatment. Dosage in this case is set on average - 0.2-0.3 grams per day.
