History of the creation and description of the painting Rylov "Field Rowan"

A thin, soulful artist, a wonderful teacher, Arkady Alexandrovich Rylov made a significant contribution to the development of Russian Soviet painting. Master of the landscape genre, he left a lot of captivating sketches of the wonderful Russian nature, capturing her unpretentious beauty and tenderness. The nature of Rylov is not just a background, but a self-sufficient "heroine" with moods, feelings, conditions inherent in her at one time or another. Let us also touch the creativity of the poet with brushes and colors!

History of the masterpiece

The subject of our conversation with you is a description of Rylov's painting "Field Rowan". It is interesting not only in itself, but also in the history of creation, the environment in which the master worked. In a very tense year for young Soviet Russia in 1922, when the Civil War was still in full swing , the country was plunged into the chaos of destruction, hunger and brutal terror, the artist wrote a canvas that was surprising in its harmony, kindness and pacification. It was accepted with enthusiasm and sympathy for the collections on art and the audience. People who were tired of social cataclysms, with a small-scale painting work, smelt quite different, so close and dear. Description of the painting Rylov "Field Rowan" will help to feel a very special energy that the canvas radiated, which captivated the work of the artist's viewers. Carelessness, peace of mind, the relaxed drowsy state of a hot summer day, the intoxicating smell of meadow flowers and grasses and the measured splash of the river - this is the atmosphere in which this landscape takes us. Of course, the verbal description of Rylov's painting "Field Rowan" will not replace her living contemplation. But it helps to present a general character and individual details. And most importantly - to understand what guided the artist and why it was this corner of nature that he wanted to capture. Now the landscape is in one of the exhibition halls of the State Russian Museum in St. Petersburg.

Foreground

We will begin the description of the picture of Rylov "Field Rowanberry" with consideration of the foreground. It depicts the "main character" of the canvas - a blossoming tansy. It is interesting that the artist chose not a traditional tree of mountain ash, but a shrub growing on meadows, along the banks of rivers and lakes. Why? Probably, because to the elegant, bright beauty of trees with blazing beads of berries the spectator has already got used. And the artist was captivated by a modest, but charming field rowanberry. Rylov, genuinely in love with the discreet Russian nature, wanted to emphasize that such ordinary landscapes are good in their own way and full of charm. And it's true! Look how pleased are the spreaders of the bush branch of tansy, what a juicy dark green of leaves and how bright gold on their background the yellow inflorescences shine! It seems that they were kissed by the sun, showered with gold dust. And how shaking the meadow kushka bushes vividly next to the ash-tree with their white-headed crowns! In general, the riot of the vegetable kingdom in the picture is striking. The dense, tall, untouched slanting grass of all shades of green, soft and fragrant, and beckons to lie down in it and doze, enjoying peace.

Side plans

In the picture, not only tansy acts as a sort of recognition mark of the primordially Russian rural landscape. The corner, chosen by the author, is framed by young birches. Thin, fragile trees sleep swaying under the breeze of the midday breeze. It seems that the hot sun has also wiped them out, sinking into a sweet daze. White trunks look defenseless, and we have a fear: how would the wind-swagger, having roamed in freedom, did not break them! Such an insignificant at first glance detail shows us how attentive and accurate Rylov is an artist, how subtly he captures the dynamics of the state of nature.

Background

Along the forested and birch-covered banks, a small river flows slowly. Its water is bright blue, as if it absorbed all the blueness of the summer sky. The opposite bank is also clearly visible, on which there are groups of trees apart and grasses are also pricked. Meadow and field distances extend further. And above them float magnificent sails of clouds. From a wonderful landscape breathes freedom, free air and happiness of being.
