The drug "Terbinafine" (tablets, ointment) refers to the pharmacotherapeutic group of antifungal agents. Synonyms: "Terbizil", Mikoterbin "," Lamizil "and others.

The drug "Terbinafine" instruction characterizes as a synthetic agent of the class of allylamines. Inhibiting squalene epoxidase in the membrane of the fungal cell, the drug "Terbinafine" specifically suppresses the synthesis of sterols at an early stage. This in turn provokes a deficit of ergosterol, an intracellular accumulation of squalene. As a result, the fungal cells die.

The drug "Terbinafine" affects mold and yeast-like fungi, dermatophytes. Low drug concentrations have a fungicidal effect against dermatophytes and mold fungi. Depending on the type of yeast-like fungus, a fungistatic or fungicidal effect is noted.

With the external application of "Terbinafine" (the instruction contains such information), the drug penetrates into the dermal layer very quickly, accumulating in the hair, nails, horny layer. In this case, the drug has a minimal systemic effect. External application of the drug "Terbinafine" (ointment) does not exclude the possibility of penetration of the active ingredient into breast milk.

Method of application of tablets "Terbinafine"

The medicine is taken once a day. Single dosage is set in accordance with the body weight.

Children weighing less than twenty kilograms are prescribed at 62.5 milligrams. Patients weighing up to forty kilograms are recommended for 125 milligrams. Dosage for adults is 250 milligrams.

According to the indications, the treatment is prescribed for two or six weeks.

With onychomycosis on the feet, the duration of therapy is about twelve weeks. With slow growth of nails may take a longer period.

As practice shows, a persistent clinical result is noticeable after a few months after the end of treatment and elimination of symptoms.

It should be remembered that irregular use of the drug or premature termination of use can trigger a relapse of the pathology.
