Marital status in the questionnaire: to whom and why is it necessary to know about it?

Belonging to the "cell of society" for each of us is one of the most important spheres of life. We marry, get divorced, give birth to children, educate others ... Therefore, marital status in the visa application form or in employment gives the potential head or consul a lot of information and .... helps to predict our behavior. Of course, it's far from always what others think of us, it coincides with reality. Nevertheless, the graph of the "marital status" in the questionnaire during employment exists, although the Soviet era passed when relatives and close "enemies of the people" were automatically also thrown out "overboard" of society.

Why do our employers or consuls of foreign countries know who we sleep with and wake up to, have dinner and dinner, spend weekends and holidays? It would seem that the marital status in the questionnaire should be a pure formality. By the way, I would like to warn the reader of "innocent deception." Even for the sake of such a "formality" to blame the soul and embellish it not worth it. It is not necessary to write that you are single, if you are in a civil marriage or that "there are no children", if you just do not live with them in the same apartment. The truth will quickly come to the surface, and even an innocent little lie will not be perceived in your favor. If you are deceived in this matter, how can you believe in the future in more serious cases for the company?

The family position in the questionnaire is very often interpreted by the personnel department staff and direct management in terms of your utility for the firm. What logic are they guided by? For example, it is believed that for a man the status of a bachelor is a kind of unreliability signal. Why? Because he does not have much of anything in this city, he can disappear with companies or walk until he falls. If he does not care about anyone, then he treats to earnings more indifferently. It is quite another matter that the young father of the family. In the eyes of the employer, this is a responsible person who must support the family. Consequently, for him the level of earnings is extremely important, and he will be laid out "in full", which will have a positive impact on the success of the company. But young mothers or women, just married, on the contrary - for a career worker or a potential boss immediately lose a few points. After all, such an employee can quickly go into the decree, she will have to pay the allowance, keep her place. And if already there are small children - they can often be ill, as a result, my mother will spend half of the working time on the sick-list. If the person in the column "marital status" in the summary indicates that he is divorced, there may be problems with the payment of alimony. In addition, the question immediately arises as to how reliable it is. The widower, on the contrary, can be perceived as a person who has experienced a serious mental trauma, prone to depression. And such moments will necessarily take into account the employer.

Visa applications also often require a family status. "Unmarried" for a young woman who wants to go abroad, in the interpretation of the consulate often means "a potential bride, an immigrant" ... Especially if a lady goes by private invitation of a male person, this may even be the reason for refusing a visa. At best, they will be required to obtain "permission for the bride."

Nevertheless, when filling out the "marital status" column in the questionnaire, we strongly recommend writing the truth. It is better to dispel the doubts of the authorities and show themselves on the positive side, than to justify and blush for "innocent deception."
