Lake Lacha: fishing, hunting and protected areas

Lacha is a lake that can surprise. It would seem that an unremarkable reservoir in the Arkhangelsk region, nevertheless, is the largest in these parts, and part of it is also reserved. Visit it is at least for the reason that to see today untouched by nature - a rarity, and if it is still rich in natural resources, then there are very few such places.

Location of the lake

Located in the Kargopol region, it stretches along the meridian line not far from the border with Karelia. The length of Lake Lacha is 33 km, width - 14 km, but its maximum depth is only 5 m, which causes the flowering of its waters in the summer. Surprisingly, at such insignificant depth it was navigable at the end of the 20th century. The only route from Kargopol to the village of Gorki was only 103 km, passing along the river Svid, which flows into the lake. Today the river has become shallow, therefore there is no water communication between the settlements.

Twelve rivers that flow into Lake Lacha form whimsical coves with sandy spits. Far from all the shore of the reservoir is suitable for rest, since some of it is swamped, and some are overgrown with reeds, which is good only for the numerous birds that stop here for long flights or nest to lead offspring.

But the western side is very much loved by tourists and amateur boat races, because it is here that beautiful sandy beaches are located.

Weather on the lake

Those who are interested in fishing on Lake Lacha, should be prepared for the changeable weather, especially in summer. Winter in these parts is quite mild because of the Atlantic air masses, which bring with them cloudy weather with frequent precipitation. Although it is relatively cold here, high humidity makes you feel uncomfortable sitting with a fishing rod in a boat or on the shore.

In the summer, the same air masses bring coolness, rain and wind, so the fishermen should take care of the raincoats and warm things in advance. Despite such changeable weather, there are no rare days for fishermen, and this is due to the incredible fish abundance of Lake Lacha. Even a beginner who first holds a fishing rod in his hands will not leave his shores without a catch.

Settlement and attractions on the shore of Lake Lacha

The only settlement Nokola, which is located directly on the shore, welcomes all the guests with hope and joy. The only opportunity to earn money from the local population is the surrender of their homes to fishermen and tourists. Surprisingly, this muffler is popular with both of them, as Lake Lacha is a truly original land.

In the village of Nokola, you can rent a two-storey guest house with amenities and a bath, and boats and fishing equipment are also rented here.

If there is interest in the Russian North, once famous for its beautiful and rich villages, you can make a journey along the river Svid, which is only 64 km long. Unfortunately, the policy of enlarging the collective farms in the postwar period destroyed the settlements that stood on its banks for hundreds of years, in just ten or twenty. Currently, this is either an abandoned village, or in them lives from one to four or five people. There are no roads, no supply, and people survive their own economy.

The main attraction of the region is its nature, which gradually takes its course, absorbing former rural streets and destroying wooden houses with beautiful carved platbands.

Reserve

The Lacha Wildlife Refuge, established in 1971, once occupied an area of 20 hectares, but at present its boundaries have been reduced to 8.8 hectares. All this time Lake Lacha was a haven for waterfowl and coastal birds, among them ducks, swan-swans, bean-eater, white-tailed eagle and gray cranes. In fact, no one made a complete list of birds nesting on the lake, so it is not known how many species and how many live or rest at the time of the flight. There are at least 8 species of ducks alone.

Under the protection, except for birds, 40 species of fish enter the spawning season and the muskrats that live on the shores of the lake. Lachsky Reserve is an incredibly beautiful place full of life, therefore it is possible to approach it from the water only on rowing boats, trips on motor vehicles are prohibited, as hunting with fishing. This gives hope that the local fauna and flora will remain intact, and the reserve itself will receive federal status.

Tourism and fishing

Who else does not know what is fishing on Lake Lacha? Feedback from experienced fishermen will convince you that it is worth traveling even thousands of kilometers. Given that it is here that fishing brings the area 30% of the total catch of freshwater fish, one can understand how much the lake is rich in its species and quantity.

Those who are interested in winter fishing on Lake Lacha will be interested to know that here they are expected not only comfortable living, but also experienced guides who know exactly where in winter the fish hides.

At the disposal of fishermen are barbecues, boats, appliances for smoking and drying fish, rest at the bathhouse and other services.

Quiet hunting

The village of Nokola is surrounded by forests rich in mushrooms and berries. For urban residents, who are accustomed to dealing with forest belts outside the city, which "fur" hundreds of mushroom pickers, there will be such a quantity of mushrooms in the wonder. There are no less berries here, such as white and black currants, raspberries, strawberries.

Lacha is a lake located in a unique place where civilization lost the battle with nature and the natural course of life. Small villages, consisting of twenty houses, many of which are empty, is a picture familiar to the modern Russian North. Perhaps this is for the better, as from the remaining residential villages it is possible to make excellent tourist bases for fishermen and mushroom pickers, without violating the natural resources.
