Is an allergy to alcohol a myth or a reality?

Allergy to alcohol is a fairly common phenomenon of modernity. As a rule, it arises from the reception of beverages, which include ethyl alcohol.

Although, in addition to alcohol, hops, yeast (which are constituents of beer), sulfites (they are used during canning of wines), cereal oil (which is the basis for the production of strong alcoholic beverages) can serve as allergens. Naturally, today there is a very frequent allergy to dyes, which are constantly added to alcohol of various modifications.

Theoretically, alcohol itself should not cause allergies. This is because its molecules are negligible so that the immune system begins to produce antibodies. As a result of the addition of preservatives, flavors and colorants, a hapten, a chemical compound, begins to form, which causes a protective reaction of the body. Another reason for the allergy is the purchase of low-quality beverages, and cheap alcohol at home or unlicensed production, consumption of home-grown wines of questionable quality, and systemic excess of the allowable dose.

Proceeding from the foregoing, it follows that the allergy to alcohol arises as a result of the increased content of polysaccharides (chemically modified elements), which are now consumed in drinks. Concerning wine, we note that the allergy in this case arises directly on the elements associated with the production of this drink. The more carefully controlled the quality of production, the more the wine product is digested, the better for you and for your body. However, if the wine is made according to standards, this does not guarantee its safety for your immune system. Remember that there may be another allergy to pesticides, which are used in the processing of grapes.

An allergy to alcohol, the symptoms of which are discussed below, may not be immediately apparent. It is important to be able to distinguish this type of allergy from a classic allergic reaction.

So, the main symptoms of alcohol allergy are:

  1. Immediately after drinking alcohol blush limbs and face.
  2. An exacerbation of a gastritis or its development (a gag reflex, a constant nausea, an indigestion of a stomach).
  3. Acceleration of intoxication.
  4. A rapidly developing rhinitis and swelling of the face.
  5. Strong smut pain, a sense of tightness of the head.
  6. Blood pressure jumps, which also increases body temperature.
  7. Violation of a stable heart rhythm (tachycardia or bradycardia).
  8. Exacerbation of bronchial asthma, possibly suffocation.

Classical allergic reaction is characterized by the fact that the skin pale, itching appears, often there is a dry cough. As a rule, an allergy to alcohol does not have such a symptomatology.

Often the symptoms of alcohol allergy disappear within two to three hours after the end of drinking. However, there are more serious cases that require medical intervention and drug treatment (bronchial asthma, severe suffocation).

When there is a more serious allergy to alcohol, treatment should be prolonged and immediate. So, first of all it is necessary to refuse the use of all alcoholic beverages and consult a doctor. The doctor after the examination determines the allergen and medicamentally cleanses the liver and the whole organism. Then I prescribe medication.

Let's remember that an allergy to alcohol is curable, but this does not mean that it is right to abuse alcohol. Perhaps you will prove to be the very person whose consequences of allergy are much more serious. So take care of your health!
