Allergies to pollen, or Sit at home, do not walk!

The pollen allergy is characterized by seasonality, that is, its manifestations, as a rule, are noticeable during flowering.

There are several symptoms of this disease:

  1. The most common symptom is sneezing, which is often accompanied by a runny nose or a stuffy nose.
  2. Irritation of the mucosa, itching in the nasal cavity or in the throat.
  3. Sometimes the allergy to pollen of plants is manifested by the appearance of dark circles under the eyes, which develops as a result of the limited blood flow in the sinuses.

If a person does not suffer from such a disease, the pollen is simply eliminated, getting into pharynx in the nasal sinuses, swallowed or coughs afterwards. But if we are dealing with allergic people, the pollen can not leave the body so quickly and painlessly.

When the allergen hits the mucous membrane of the nasal cavity, a chemical reaction occurs, causing the connective tissue cells to produce histamine, which dilates the blood vessels. Then through them begins to flow a fluid, leading to swelling of the passageways and nasal congestion. The development of histamine sometimes causes itching, burning and a lot of sputum.

Very often pollen allergy causes the development of asthma, which first manifests itself as a seasonal disease, and then acquires a chronic form.

This type of allergy has three forms of diagnosis:

  1. Skin samples. Light scratches are made on the hand, on which then the pollen is applied. At the same time, it is possible to carry out such samples for 12 allergens.
  2. Tests provocation. Allergen is applied to the nasal mucosa, eyes or respiratory organs and then determine the degree of activity of specific immunoglobulins, which are aimed at neutralizing external factors. This method has a higher degree of reliability.
  3. The most accurate method, which determines the allergy to pollen - is the detection of specific immunoglobulins in the blood to pollen allergens.

All such procedures are carried out before the flowering season.

Doctors also identify some groups of people who have a high risk of developing this allergy:

  1. People whose residences are located in an unfavorable ecological environment.
  2. Patients with weakened immunity (most often pollen allergy develops in children).
  3. People with bronchial asthma or bronchitis.
  4. Those who have had an operation to remove the tonsils.
  5. All asthmatics and allergies.

An allergy to pollen, the treatment of which is conducted both during the exacerbation and outside it, should be clearly controlled: patients must adhere to certain rules of behavior:

  1. You can not go to nature during the flowering period.
  2. When the windows go out into the yard, it is better to keep them closed.
  3. After going outside the house, you must take a shower and change.
  4. After visiting the street and before going to bed, you need to rinse your nose with sea water and rinse her throat.
  5. To adhere to hypoallergenic diet, the principles of which will explain the doctor.
  6. Refuse to dry clothes on the street.
  7. Clean the air with specialized means (cleaners or air conditioners with air filters).
  8. Take medications prescribed by an allergist.
  9. If a woman is pregnant, she is prescribed antihistamines of local action (ointments and sprays).

If pollen allergy does not occur as a result of observing the above precautionary measures, it is best for this period to change the climate zone or simply restrict the visit to the street. It is important to know that from 8 to 11 am in the air the maximum concentration of pollen is observed. By evening, its number decreases, at night it generally does not. Also, on windless and rainy days, pollen is less than in dry and hot weather.
