Ioannovsky Monastery on Karpovka. St. John's Convent

Ioannovskiy stauropegial nunnery was founded by John of Kronstadt. But he is named not in his honor. Do not be mistaken, thinking like this. In fact, its name comes from the name of the Monk John of Rylsk. It is in this place in the temple-tomb where the relics of the founder of the monastery are located.

Consecration of territory, the beginning of construction

The monastery was erected in a neo-Byzantine style, and the project was compiled by architect N.N. Nikonov.

Initially, this building was to serve as a courtyard of the John theological community, founded in the village of Sura. May 8, 1900 there was a historical event. The consecration of the territory for the farmstead was done. And on September 16, 1900, his bookmark began, which was carried out by Boris Plotnikov (Bishop of Yamburg). So the future Ioannovsky Monastery was founded on Karpovka. But that was only the beginning…

Only after 12 months the community began to be considered a full-fledged monastery. And as for the farmstead, it got the status of the monastery.

Values of the Temple

In the church were collected crosses and images belonging to St. John, as well as his donations to the monastery. The most significant of these is the ark, made of silver, in which the relics of the Monks Alexander Svirsky and Sergius of Radonezh are stored.

Other buildings

From 1903 until 1908, a five-story building was erected for those who would like to live at the monastery, in addition, an infirmary, cells, workshops for needlework and icon painting were built, and a burial vault was built in the basement of the church.

Some time after the death of the founder of the monastery, in mid-winter of 1909, a rescript was published, published by the Synod, dated January 12. It said that from now on the St. John's convent, where the relics are located, receives the status of first-class.

Abolition of the monastery

In 1919, the monastery was converted into a labor commune. And in a few years it was abolished (the nuns lived in it all this time). In 1922, as is known, a diocesan administration was seized in Petrograd. Supporters of Renovation did this. It was then that the community of the monastery was annexed to the Petrograd autocephaly, after the exile of Siman's Alexy (archbishop), it was headed by Nikolai Yarushevich. However, on May 12, 1923, he was arrested, and then exiled. After that, with the active participation of the authorities, all the monastic property was given to the full use of the twenty. This was the name of the renewal community. On May 19, 1923, the Provincial Executive Committee ruled that the Ioannovsky Monastery on Karpovka should be abolished. However, it was possible to do this only at the end of autumn, since the renovation manual was categorically opposed.

Difficult times

In the premises of the monastery further reclamation college was located, and in early spring of 1926 a wall was completely walled up, behind which was the tomb of St. John. A very sad fact: most of the sisters were arrested at the dawn of the 1930s. A little later they were all sent to Kazakhstan.

Consecration of the temple, obtaining a new status

At the end of the autumn of 1989 an important event occurred - the buildings gave the diocese, after which they began to be considered as a courtyard of another monastery (Pyukhtitsky). On the birthday of St. John, on November 1, the lower church was consecrated.

July 12, 1991, when there was a patronal feast, there was one more important event. Patriarch Alexy II consecrated the upper part of the church in honor of the Apostles.

On December 25, 1991, the Ioannovsky Convent in Karpovka received the status of a stauropegic.

Testimonies of pilgrims

Many people who came here noted that after visiting the holy place in their lives, favorable changes occurred, the diseases receded, it became easier on the soul. These revelations can be read in special books about the monastery.

The Prophecy of St. John

Do you remember what St. John said about this monastery, which he himself founded? He claimed that this place would become truly holy, that now it still leaves much to be desired, very few people know about it, but after many years it will become famous. As you can see, everything happened exactly as he said. The Ioannovsky Monastery on Karpovka is really famous all over Russia today.

A little bit about the founder of the monastery

Many mystical events are associated with this person. People believed that John was indeed a saint, and sometimes he committed reckless acts. There were many such cases. One day, when John was riding his horses to his house, a grandmother threw herself right under their feet. The saint was frightened, he stopped and approached the woman. But she easily rose to her feet and said that now that John herself had moved her, no illness was afraid of her, rheumatism would not plague her from now on.

The saint could predict the future, he foresaw both wars, and a revolution, and difficult times for Orthodoxy. He also criticized Leo Tolstoy and said that it was Satan himself.

He was well aware of the time of his death, unmistakably foresaw it. The saint was invited to lay a foundation for the Kronstadt Naval Cathedral, and, finishing his speech, he said that when a roof would be installed on a new temple, he would die. This prediction came true with astonishing accuracy. The man who founded the John's Monastery in Karpovka was a real prophet. His personality, of course, is of interest.

Shortly before his death, John sent holiday Christmas cards to some of his acquaintances, explaining this by saying that otherwise they would not get them at all. After some time after that his state of health worsened, he went to bed and did not get up any more. On December 18, waking up from a painful dream, he asked what day it is today. He was informed of the number, after which the saint said that he was left for a couple of days.

The night before his death, John's torment was simply unbearable. Next to him sat an old cook, some close ones, and Father Ornatsky. No one knew how to alleviate his anguish: the saint had long said that he did not want the doctors to approach him even simply.

On January 2 (December 20, according to the old style), this righteous man quietly departed into the world, who did so much for the church and for people. He was 79 years old.

The saint died in 1908, shortly before his death, he said that he wanted his body to be placed in the Ioannovsky convent, in the lower church. His request was fulfilled. In the 1930s, the authorities decided that John's relics must be taken out of the city and burned. But there are reports that a certain high boss, fearing the wrath of the Lord, informed the saints' relatives that the coffin was in its original place and the remains of the righteous are still in the Ioannovsky Monastery.

The people who lived at that time remember how hundreds of believers day and night came to the locked up window. Attaching to him, as if to an image, they turned to John with prayers and requests. People went there really crowds. The guards tried to avoid the St. John Monastery. It was said that sometimes you hear someone quietly say prayers and move around.

Some pilgrims reported that, with truly sincere prayer, the image of John of Kronstadt appeared on a stone basement wall.

Do not forget the interesting prediction of the saint, who said that in our country at the end of the twentieth century a prophet will appear, who will become a monk and lead our homeland to peace and prosperity. Well, let's see if it will come true.
