The InternetWeb design

HTML List Tags Known

At the dawn of the Internet, developers thought about how it is possible to transfer a wide variety of information between computers in such a way that it can be adequately perceived on any platform. The thing is that if you transfer files created in any programs on the network, which is technically possible, they may not be displayed correctly on all computers, because network computers can have different platforms and different sets of installed programs.

The way out was found. Text files can be displayed on all platforms. Therefore, it was decided to transmit all information in text files. But what about images and text formatting?

For this purpose, a special metalanguage was developed, called Standard Generalized Markup Language, or SGML, the standard generalized markup language. The ideology of this language is that the text is sent over the Web, marked with special descriptors - tags that instruct the browser to display the text exactly as intended.

The direct descendant of SGML became the HTML hypertext markup language (Hypertext Markup Languale), which inherited the ideology of its parent. Tags HTML list of which is known to every webmaster, tell the browser not only how to display text, but also where to insert an image that is transmitted separately, how to arrange tables, how to place information on the computer screen and much more.

However, not only HTML tags are listed in the display of information, but also other technologies. So according to the recently emerging ideology of separating hypertext markup and text formatting, all the formatting began to be rendered into separate files called cascading sheets (or tables) of styles - Cascading Style Sheets (CSS), and all HTML pages are connected to CSS files, which greatly simplifies the task Not only the text formatting, but also the creation of various design elements of the web page.

Since the HTML tags list is still not enough to create dynamic elements of web pages, it is impossible to apply to create a beautiful dynamic button that changes the background image when you hover over the cursor. So still how to make a button for the site, and beautiful and dynamic? Here, too, CSS technology comes to the rescue. Tags HTML list of which with the development of the language can change, show the browser where the button is located, and CSS elements show what background (or inscription) will be assigned to the button in different positions of the mouse cursor.

Of course, other technologies such as the JavaScript programming language can be used for this purpose, which is often done, but in this case the page may not be displayed correctly in some browsers, which is a sad consequence of the so-called "browser war". The language of JavaScript after its creation quickly became so popular among developers that firms developing and supporting browsers began to make their own changes to it. Therefore, what is written in the JavaScript language for the Internet Explorer browser can be incorrectly displayed in the Netscape browser and vice versa.

Thus, the HTML background tags, of course, can display, but in modern technologies of layout separation and web page design this task is given to CSS. HTML language is constantly being improved. Developers now have already created the fifth version of the language that most modern browsers support. The new version of the language has a lot of new, which gives developers an incredible space for creativity.

CSS technology is also being improved. In the third version there is also a lot of new, for example a frame with rounded corners. In earlier versions, in order to "create" such a framework, it was necessary to create separate graphic elements of such a framework in the tabular structure.

These are the technologies of today. And what will happen tomorrow?
