How to properly adjust the valves on the car?

Each car needs periodic adjustment of the valves. If this is not done on time, the machine will begin to lose its traction, the drive will start to rustle and the load on the remaining parts of the ICE will increase. To prevent this from happening, it is necessary to adjust the valves in a timely manner . How to do it, learn in today's article.

Adjustment of valve clearances with own hands

First of all, you need to understand one nuance. Checking and adjusting the valve clearance should only be performed on a cooled engine. Recommended temperature for experts to set the gap is no more than 38 degrees.

After our engine has cooled down, you can proceed with the adjustment. First, we need to remove the cylinder head cover, then turn the engine until the first cylinder enters the BMT position. In this case, attention should be paid to the labels. It is important that they coincide with the pin on the pulley of the oil pump.

Also it is necessary to pay attention to pushers of inlet and final valves. Devices on the first cylinder should have a small gap, and on the 4th - be tightly clamped. If this does not happen, turn the motor one more turn.

Now take a special dipstick and measure the gap between the valves. Ideally, it should not slip or get stuck. The stylus should pass the distance with a little effort. If the device safely flies through the gap or, conversely, stuck halfway, it means that it is necessary to adjust the valve. In this case, take two carob keys (usually 13 and 17 millimeters) and release the lock nut on the adjusting screw. Now you can safely expose the necessary clearance.

What gap should it be?

It should be noted that absolutely on all cars this value is 0.15 millimeters. And this value does not depend on how the gas-distributing mechanism of the car is arranged.

How often should the valves be adjusted?

Expose the gap immediately after the obvious signs were seen. This is a loss of power, dynamics, characteristic "shots" from the exhaust pipe and so on. If we talk about figures, we need to regulate the valves every 20-30 thousand kilometers. If at the last mark you do not have any exhausts, no power loss, still check the clearance between the valves. So you will be sure that your iron friend is in good order.

Also after setting the necessary clearance, you can replace the shims from the upper side of the pushers. To do this, crank the crankshaft and press the pusher inward with a special tool. After that we take out the washer. This can be done with a small screwdriver or a magnet. But before pressing it back, turn the device until it turns to the candles on the upper side. Ideally, two pushers should be pressed together.

After the gap has been exposed, we collect everything in the reverse order and check the work of the engine. He should not make any clicks during work and other characteristic sounds.
