How to cook licorice sweets at home

Licorice is a plant belonging to the family of legumes. In some countries it is called Licorice and prefers to grow in temperate regions. Therefore, it is quite common in the South of Russia and in Ukraine. In the countries of the former USSR it is used as a medicine and foaming agent. However, in the US, Germany, Holland and many other countries from it make stunning sweets that are in demand far beyond the country of origin.

Usually recipes of licorice candies suggest the presence of a fresh root of this plant. This is very problematic for urban residents, and for those who live in the north of the country, it is almost impossible. Therefore, as an alternative, it is proposed to use the medicinal preparation "Licorice root", which contains the crushed root of liquorice. To make sweets, you will need:

- Licorice root syrup - 2 bottles.

- Food gelatin - 30 grams.

First, pour gelatin with a glass of cool, but boiled water, and leave in a warm place for swelling. Next, the resulting substance must be heated on a small fire for complete dissolution. After this, the resulting mass must be filtered so that no pieces of gelatin remain.

At the next stage, licorice root syrup is added to the future licorice sweets and heated a little more to evaporate the alcohol. It turns out quite unpleasant in appearance mucus with a characteristic smell. It must be poured into specially prepared forms or on a plate. In professional confectioneries, the future licorice sweets are poured into starch, on which special grooves were squeezed out using special molds. Thus, the frozen candy will take the necessary form. If there is no possibility to use starch, then the candy frozen in a plate can be cut with an ordinary knife or a form for biscuits.

Ready-made sweets must be sprinkled with powdered sugar or corn flour to prevent them sticking together at room temperature, characteristic of a product such as liquorice. The damage from such sweets is much less than from caramel and chocolate, and the useful qualities of this plant are legendary, as evidenced by its medical use.
