How to cook caramelized oranges? Recipes for gourmets

If, after a party or a dinner party, you have a whole mess of oranges cut in circles, do not rush to despair or finish everything in a hurry. You can cook an excellent dessert for tea - caramelized oranges. Of course, this delicacy can be cooked on occasion.

Dessert, known from the Middle Ages

In Spain, ripe oranges are not surprising. Therefore, even during the Middle Ages, local moors experimented with fruit lobules. So there were candied fruits and caramelized oranges. Soon the recipe became known to the French, then spread across Europe, and then throughout the world. Did you know that honey was used instead of sugar in medieval recipes? Thus, dessert takes longer shelf life.

Caramelized Oranges: recipe with brown sugar

To prepare this dessert the following ingredients will be required:

  • Oranges of medium size - 1 kilogram;
  • Sugar brown - 400 grams;
  • Water - half a cup.

Rinse the fruit and cut them into circles not more than half a centimeter. For the process itself we need a deep frying pan. We alternate the sequence once more. The second layer of oranges again sprinkle with brown sugar.

The following recipe will amaze you with an amazing combination of tastes. In order to prepare caramelized oranges in chocolate you will need the following ingredients:

  • Oranges of medium size - 5 pieces;
  • Granulated sugar - 550 grams;
  • Chocolate dark - 150 grams;
  • Vanillin - one sachet;
  • Water for syrup - 300 ml.

Cooking method

To start, we cut oranges into thin circles. Again, you can use a vegetable cutter or a nozzle for slices on a multifunction grater. Small circles are best not to use. If you do not like bitter bitter zest, you can pour the ready-made slices with boiling water for a couple of minutes. This time is enough to give the hot water a characteristic bitter taste. However, after this procedure, do not forget about thorough drying. Place a large plate with a towel, place a slice of orange on it, and then cover it with a towel again.

It's time to prepare the syrup. To do this, take a deep pan or a saucepan of the appropriate diameter. As you already know, you can use a frying pan for these purposes. Add sugar, add vanillin, and water. The resulting composition, stir with a wooden spoon or spatula. Heat until the consistency, until the sugar crystals completely dissolve.

It's time to spread citrus circles. Cook the mixture on a moderate fire for an hour and a half. Do not forget to check the condition of the bottom of the vessel with a wooden spoon. Also remember that the lobules can not languish on one side, so turn them around using culinary metal tongs. The readiness of oranges can be judged by the white interlayer between the zest and fruity pulp. If it became translucent, then it's time to take out the lobules from the vessel.
