How often to water garlic at different times of the year

Garlic perfectly tolerates frosts, so in a temperate climate it is often planted from autumn. In this case, the plant will begin to develop with the first warm spring days, and by the beginning of summer new bulbs will appear. Garlic, planted in spring, is usually collected at the end of summer. At the same time, it is worse stored, more susceptible to various diseases, it has less pronounced taste and aroma.

One of the secrets of growing this culture is the timely saturation of the soil with moisture. How often to water garlic, depends on the season, the amount of precipitation, as well as some other parameters. As a rule, winter vegetables are planted near the end of autumn, but it is necessary until the first frosts. The garlic multiplies by means of separate fragments of the bulb, that is, in simple terms, denticles. Plant them in a prepared soil, and no more than once every 4 years on the same site.

Return to caring for winter garlic should be in the spring, when the snow will come down. It can be fed and loosen the soil. Many summer residents are interested in the question of how often to water garlic with the onset of spring. If the winter was sufficiently snowy, then the moisture after melting, as a rule, is sufficient until May. So in the case of a rainy spring in spring watering, winter garlic does not need.

By the beginning of summer arrows appear on plants, which must be broken off. Otherwise, the entire energy of the plant will be directed to the development of the inflorescence and maturation of the seeds, so that the bulbs will either turn out to be underdeveloped or not formed at all. Several arrows can still be left for further breeding or for monitoring, then to correctly calculate the harvesting time.

At this stage it is important to know how to properly water garlic, because it is during this period that the plant needs additional moisture. 3 weeks before the planned harvesting it is necessary to stop any work on the beds (except for weed control). Watering garlic is recommended not very often, as the soil dries. In arid times, it should be done once a week, in damp and rainy times - even less. In this case, experts strongly recommend additional fertilizing.

About how often you need to water garlic in a particular area, as a rule, people who have long been growing it know. But even a beginner who does this for the first time can realize that the plant lacks moisture, over the seared tops and dry soil.

In addition to winter garlic, which can be distinguished by the characteristic violet veins on the bulb of the bulb, this culture is also grown by the traditional spring method. The prongs are planted in the prepared soil in the spring, and the bulbs are excavated in the beginning of autumn. How often to water the garlic, planted in this way, depends already on the aridity of summer. Naturally, in a hotter period, all plants need more moisture. But it is better not to abuse watering and do it as needed (not more often 2 times a week in the summer and 1 time in 2 weeks in the spring).

Sometimes garlic is grown with seeds, but in this case the harvest can be collected only for the second year after planting. This method is not very common, because it is considered troublesome, but there are certain pluses. How often to water garlic in the first year after planting seeds depends also on climatic conditions and soil moisture. In general, this plant does not belong to whimsical, so even with insufficient watering it is able to give a good harvest.
