Group "Purgen": composition, photo, discography

One of the veterans of the domestic punk scene, who play their furious music to this day, is the "Purgen" band. Over the years, they experimented with the pitch and styles, but remained faithful to the channel of hardcore punk. "Purgen" is a group whose photo can shock a layman: defiant clothing, multicolored Iroquois and riveted leather jackets - all this became the visiting card of the team.

"Lenin-samotyk"

At the decline of the Soviet Union in our country, few knew about such a phenomenon as punk rock. At the clandestine points of sales, it was possible to find the first records of American and British groups. So, in 1989 Ruslan Gvozdev and Gennady Filimonov, inspired by the creativity of American punks Dead Kennedys and The Exploited, decided to play their music. Initially, their group received a very provocative title "Lenin-samotyk." Rusya Purgen and Gene Chikatilo at home recorded the first album, called "Brezhnev is alive." As instruments, they used a guitar and drums stolen from a local pioneer home.

The birth of the name and the first concerts

At that time, Ruslan studied in the technical school and learned the methods of artistic stone processing. In the assembly hall, they with Gena and a new drummer named Battery have recorded the second album called "The Great Stink". At that time the American delegation was to arrive at the school. The participants decided to shock the foreign public and even changed the name in order to pass censorship of the institution's management. They chose "Purgen", since it was Ruslan's nickname. The performance did not take place, at the last moment the director canceled the concert, as he was shocked by the appearance of the musicians. The children were expelled from the school, gave several concerts, the group soon disintegrated, but the punks were able to get acquainted with other representatives of this subculture. For a long time Rusya could not find musicians. The group was completely reassembled only in 1995.

In 1995, Rusya Purgen met with two otvyaznymi punks who came to the capital from Kaliningrad. They were called Panama and the Gnome. They stood up for the bass guitar and drums respectively. Soon Chikatilo returned to the team. Later, the Gnome Sr. joined the boys, he performed on tapes, in the group he was kept only because he was a relative of a bass player. A few months later, the team leader could not stand it and kicked him out for excessive drunkenness right before the release of the new album. In his place took a guitarist named Roberts. With him was recorded the album "Radiation activity from the garbage can"

The composition of the group "Purgen" changed many times, so, after a year the team left Chikatilo. He decided to quit with music and his way of life, starting a family life. In connection with this, the guitar was taken into the hands of the founder of the team, a bass player was invited to a character called Yeansen, who, however, did not stay long. Soon his place was taken by Cologne. It was this composition for two years that the group "Purgen" recorded one of its most successful albums, "The Philosophy of Urban Timelessness."

After 2 years instead of the Dwarf for the drums sat a cult character of the domestic punk-party Bai. In addition to "Purgen", he was known for his work in Distemper. With Bay, the group "Purgen" recorded the album "The Toxidermists of Urban Madness".

Side project of Ruslan Purgen

The group "Purgen" though remained a priority for its founder, but was not the only one. In the late 1990s, Ruslan was carried away by cyberpunk and began work on the Toxigen project. He experimented with electronic sound. As a result, the album was recorded and several performances were given. Toxigen became a notable phenomenon, and experiments with electronics influenced the creativity of the main team: the music accelerated, more and more resembling fast hardcore.

"Purgen" at the peak of popularity

The rise of popularity took place at the beginning of the 2000s. The band is releasing another album Destroy for creation. After his presentation, the musicians get to know the Diagens team playing hard d-beat. After that, a new guitarist named Diagen was invited to the band. The team changed again in 2004, when the team left Bai, Moss and Martin, and instead Ruslan invited the young punks of Plato and Krok.

In this composition, they recorded "Protest details of the mechanism." This album includes reissued old hits and one new track. The collection was very popular, and his presentation collected thousands of punks on the stages of big clubs in Moscow and St. Petersburg.

A little later, "Purgen" tries himself in a new hypostasis. They shoot a large collection of clips, which was released in the DVD format in 2006 under the title "11 years of silent shouting." The collection has gained great popularity among fans, it included cuts from live performances of the team and clips on the most popular hits.

Reincarnation of "Purgen"

The music and style of the band changed in 2005. The new album "Reincarnation" was not so supported by the old fans. Ruslan Gvozdev began to pay more attention to the philosophy of texts. In the songs he began to raise serious questions of the existence of man, religion and progress. Even more philosophical was the album of 2007 entitled "Transformation of Ideals". Not all fans took this change positively, many punks of the old formation turned away from the group.

Despite this, the punk band "Purgen" became a new fan. In 2008, the musicians went on a big tour, during which many cities of Siberia, Russia and Europe visited. They recorded a new collection of clips, which was released on a DVD called "30000 years of punk hardcore," and even presented it on the alternative TV channel O2 TV. Since that time, the band has become desirable at many major festivals, and their songs can be heard in the rotation of "Our Radio".

The "Purgen" group today

In 2010, the studio album "God of Slaves" is released. The novelty was the use of folk instruments in arrangements of some compositions. After that the rock band "Purgen" takes a short vacation. They no longer write new albums, but are actively on tour. Since 2013, the collective is increasingly shone on major European festivals, where it is well received by the foreign public. In honor of the 20th anniversary of the band, one of its founders, Gene Chikatilo, performed on the stage.

In 2015, in Moscow, the group "Purgen" celebrated its 25th anniversary on the stage of a large club "Tochka". Bai and Alexey Chikhanin took part in the concert. The audience took the updated sound of the band perfectly, which once again proved the status of participants as dinosaurs of domestic punk rock.
