Gonarthrosis of the knee joint

Gonarthrosis of the knee joint (osteoarthritis) is in the first place among other arthroses, affecting the joints of the limbs. Its everyday name is "salt deposition". In fact, indeed, gonarthrosis of the knee joint is accompanied by the formation of calcification foci, provoked by calcium deposits. However, they are secondary in character.

Gonarthrosis of the knee joint is caused, first of all, by a violation of microcirculation in the structure of bone tissue. Cartilage changes entail its turbidity, thinning and cracking. Over time, the cartilage completely disappears. In this case, the bone is exposed and the formation in it of densification, "spines", which, in turn, leads to deformation. Therefore, the disease has another name - osteoarthritis deforming.

Gonarthrosis of the knee joint is divided into secondary and primary. Primary disease is observed in older people, more often in women. It can be provoked by an increased excess of body weight. Secondary gonarthrosis of the knee joint develops as a result of its trauma or the onset of inflammatory processes inside it.

The disease begins, as a rule, imperceptibly and has a slow course. The first manifestations are accompanied by stiffness in the knee, pains that arise after loads on it. In many cases, stiffness manifests itself in the morning and passes after walking. Progression of the disease provokes persistent severe pain. Movement is accompanied by an articular crunch. In the future, there may be lameness or loss of ability to move independently.

Diagnosis of the disease does not, as a rule, present any difficulties. Clarification of the diagnosis is made through X-ray study.

There are two degrees of joint damage. Disease of the first degree is not accompanied by a marked deformation of bones. There is a small swelling in the joint. The patient can periodically feel severe pain. Gonarthrosis of the knee joint of the 2nd degree is characterized by more intense manifestations of pain even after a minor load. Especially strong they can be after walking and lifting weights. Appears articular crunch, sometimes there are difficulties with full bending of the knee. The third degree of the disease is accompanied by increased pain, which occurs not only during movement, but also at rest. Due to the fact that the patient is trying to find the most comfortable position, sleep is disturbed. Painful joints are affected by weather changes. The mobility of the knee is significantly reduced, in a number of cases the patient is unable to bend it. There is a considerable deformation of bones. The limbs can take the form of X or O, and as a result, the gait changes.
