Giardia in children is a hidden health threat.

Quite often parents face the problem of ill health in their children. Now and then there are causeless allergic reactions in the form of atopic dermatitis, persistent colds, indicating a decrease in immunity, abdominal pain and right hypochondrium with an increase in the liver. Numerous examinations do not reveal anything significant, and the child does not gain weight, lagging behind in physical development. And the reason can be odna-it ljamblii at children.

Giardiasis belongs to the group of secret parasitic infestations, therefore it is difficult to identify it in some cases and there are several reasons for this, which are considered in this article. Unicellular parasites of microscopic size are independent living beings and use the body, in particular, the intestinal lumen and bile ducts as their habitat. They enter through the mouth with contaminated objects contaminated by children (toys, pencils, etc.), as well as through poorly washed fruits and vegetables. And young children are just the ability to try everything "for a tooth", so they are very vulnerable in terms of infection. And to counteract this can only a thorough and timely hygienic treatment of objects that can be a source of infection. If older children have a harmful habit of biting their nails, sucking the tip of a pencil or pen, then among them, lambliasis is detected up to 60% of those surveyed.

The peculiarity of this parasite is that it is able for a long time to be in the external environment in the form of cysts that are resistant to adverse effects and are found even in chlorinated tap water. They feed on those substances that come with food and should go for the construction of the tissues of a growing organism, but do not reach the destination, so when the lamblia is sufficiently seeded in children, they cause a deficit in body weight. In the process of their lifestyles, children develop waste products that have a powerful allergenic potential and, absorbed into the blood, lead to general sensitization of the body, causing massive allergic manifestations, primarily on the skin, in the form of various rashes.

If properly prescribed treatment of lamblia in children is easily removed, but for this they must first be diagnosed. That's where the main problem exists. The fact is that lamblia in children live high in the small intestine and not always can be found in coprological research. Therefore, if this analysis on lamblia in children is negative, this does not mean that the child is not sick. For a reliable study of giardiasis, duodenal sounding is necessary to check also the bile portions for the presence of parasites. But this procedure is acceptable for children of an older age, but what about the younger children? In this case, serodiagnosis will help, that is, you just have to donate blood for analysis and with the help of a special test, modern medicine will easily detect traces of the presence of the parasite. This method to date is the most reliable to identify lamblia in children. It is recommended to all children who have a suspicion of infection with lamblia.

Treatment of lamblias in children is carried out with antiparasitic drugs, among which the most frequently used is metronidazole and the derivative of nitrofuran (McMiore's preparation, for example). It is mandatory for the treating doctor to be prescribed medication, under his control, and must undergo treatment. Usually these are two courses of taking the drug for 10-12 days, but in every individual case the doctor decides everything. Self-treatment is unacceptable, because the uncontrolled intake of these drugs can in itself cause strong adverse reactions, especially if the required dosage is exceeded.
