Gardnerella Vaginalis

Gardnerella vaginalis is a specific microorganism that is small in size and is a transient microorganism in the human body. Gardnerella is an anaerobic organism; Which grows and multiplies only in anoxic conditions. This microorganism has a variable structure, can take both a gram-positive and gram-negative structure.

For many years, it was believed that gardnerella vaginalis is the main causative agent of vaginal dysbacteriosis and vaginitis, however, this theory was later disproved. The fact is that the methods of diagnostics began to develop more and more, new pathogens were discovered, therefore, gardnerellez began to be isolated into a separate disease.

It should be noted that some experts still believe that the detection of vaginal gardnerella in patients is a specific marker of bacterial vaginosis.

Gardnerella vaginalis does cause disease with similar clinical signs, as with dysbiosis. In patients there are uncharacteristic discharge with an unpleasant smell of "rotten or frozen fish". Later, itching and burning in the area of the vulva can appear, and then a nonspecific inflammatory process begins.

It is necessary to understand that gardnerella vaginalis is normal in the bioflora of the vagina of any woman, however, it is necessary that the amount of lactobacilli significantly exceeds the number of gardnerella. The permissible concentration of conditionally pathogenic gardnerella in the microflora is up to 25%, when this value begins to increase, dysbacteriosis develops.

Gardnerella vaginalis can be transmitted as follows:

Unprotected sex. It must be taken into account that various spermacid lubricants, vaginal tablets, creams and foams do not have a bactericidal effect, so they can not protect against STIs;

- Transplacental and vertical way of transmission from mother to child, as a result of which babies are born by seeded gardnerella;

- the household or contact transmission path is not excluded, but unlikely. It is enough to use a shared towel or linen. As of today, there are a lot of disputes between doctors about this way of transfer, however, it has not been ruled out yet.

Gardnerella vaginalis in men - this is no longer a rare occurrence. Symptoms of the manifestation of the disease are similar in both men and women. However, in men, it is much harder to differentiate this disease. As a rule, they apply at sufficiently advanced stages. In men, gardnerellosis manifests itself most often with balanoposthitis, prostatitis or cystitis.

What diseases can cause gardnerella?

Vaginal gardnerella can lead to the development of septic spread of infection - the most severe outcome of the disease. Also these pathogens can lead to the formation of abscesses and inflammation of the lungs.

In women, the gardnerella leads most often to the development of the inflammation of the small pelvis and the external genital organs.

Also, cystitis, urethritis and pyelonephritis can be attributed to diseases associated with gardnerella.

Gardnerella vaginalis: treatment.

Treatment of the disease in women is carried out according to the following scheme:

- elimination of pathological microflora - the drug "Metronidazole" is used;

- the population of the vagina with normal microflora - eubiotics;

- immunostimulating drugs and vitamins.

As for the male population, in case of diagnosis of gardnerellez, it is necessary to determine the clinical signs. If the manifestations do not disturb the patient, then he does not need treatment. If the gardnerellez manifests as associated diseases, then the treatment is performed by "Metronidazole" - the main drug, and symptomatic therapy is also necessary.
