Galina Benislavskaya - friend and literary secretary of Sergei Yesenin: biography

Galina Benislavskaya is a creative personality, a journalist who linked her life with literature. It was born in December 97 of the outgoing nineteenth century in the northern capital of the Russian Empire.

Since her mother was very ill and unable to support her child, Galina was adopted by her own maternal aunt, Nina Zubova (the last name was from her first husband). She worked as a doctor and was married for the second time to her colleague Arthur Benislavsky, who became a real father for Galina and gave the girl his own name.

Serene childhood and adolescence Galina Benislavskaya, whose biography is interesting to all connoisseurs of Yesenin's art, spent her time in the provincial Latvian town of Rezekne, but she received an excellent education in the St. Petersburg high school, which she graduated with honors. She was a very capable girl, sociable and ambitious enough.

The revolutionary spirit of young Galina

It was at this critical period for Russia, when the bloody First World War was torn apart by the beginning of the new twentieth century and the already revolutionary moods were hovering in the air, when, under the influence of her close school friend and her parents, who were obsessed with the idea of fighting the tsarist autocracy, May seventeenth year in the party of the revolutionary movement of the Bolsheviks.

At her adoptive family, the serious interest and views of her daughter raised serious concerns. And on this basis of political disagreement, as well as the desire for independent life, Galina became stronger in the decision to leave Peter and go to study in the distant Kharkov. There she in the same significant 1917 entered the university at the Faculty of Natural Science.

New life in Kharkov

After a while the city was occupied by the troops of the provisional government, and a student of Kharkov University, dreaming to leave this place as quickly as possible and get to the red ones, close to her in ideological views, set out on a journey. Galina was determined to leave quickly. She left the city in the direction of the location of the numerous army of Bolsheviks, but along the way she was arrested by the whites. The girl was almost shot by the wartime laws.

But lucky luck saved her. At the moment when she was brought to the headquarters to find out all the circumstances and personality, she recognized in the crowd of her foster father - Arthur Benislavsky, who served in the army of the White Guards as a field feldsher. When he learned that Galina was in a situation that could cost her life, she immediately clarified the history, confirmed her personality and the fact of her paternity. He also helped her to cross the front line, enrolling as a nurse and issuing all the necessary documents. But this epic of the whirlwind of unforeseen situations in her life did not end, since it was the certificate she got that aroused serious suspicion among the revolutionary authorities, after Galina managed to reach them safely.

But this time the perspicacious girl was not at a loss, she referred to the father of her friend, the Bolshevik, who confirmed by telegram that Galina Benislavskaya is a member of the revolutionary party and joined it in May 1917.

Party work

Later, already in the capital, she, on the recommendation of the same party colleague, got a job in the commission for emergency cases. Here she worked for four years, and then she was invited as a competent specialist by the Moscow newspaper of workers and peasants "Bednota", where Galina had served for quite a long time.

Love of literature

The fascination with literature in Benislavskaya not only manifested itself on a professional level, but also became her true love. She was a frequenter of any interesting literary evening or the performance of talented and promising poets. And one day on one of these evenings a fateful meeting took place - a brilliant young poet Yesenin and Galina Benislavskaya found each other.

Birth of love

Impressive girl fell in love with him from the moment she heard his poems, deeply sunk into her soul (September 19, 1920). By the end of the year their personal acquaintance took place. Yesenin and Galina Benislavskaya met in the literary cafe Stoil Pegasus, where the creative elite gathered.

After that, the girl became a close friend for Esenin, and very soon their relationship outgrew from a friendly to a romantic relationship. At some time he lived with her, but after meeting with the ballerina Isadora Duncan Yesenin abruptly cut off communication with Benislavskaya. The broken maiden heart was not able to withstand such unexpected and dramatic changes, which was reflected in the appearance of a serious psychological disorder. She even had to go to the hospital after another nervous breakdown.

Another heart wound

The time has passed, Galina Benislavskaya recovered a little after serious experiences, and it seems that the love wound was slowly being delayed, but everything was not as easy as we would like. Yesenin returned from a romantic trip with a new lover, Duncan, after which they parted, and again settled at Benislavskaya, who unquestioningly accepted him. But this love epic prepared for her another blow: summer 25 was the period of the final rupture of their relationship, in which the initiator was once again Sergei. The reason was his upcoming marriage to Tolstoy.

Mental torment, suffering and torment again became the companions of the unfortunate girl. Galina left Moscow to be away from all the unpleasant events for her and the places that give painful echoes in her soul. There was no Benislavskaya in the capital and during the funeral of her lover.

Despair that led to suicide

Unable to cope with his love feelings, Galina Benislavskaya shot herself at Yesenin's grave in the winter of 26. There the girl left the last message. The immortal note by Galina Benislavskaya left no doubt about her serious and voluntary intention: "I was killed here ... In this grave, everything is dear to me." Although she was not lucky enough to be with her beloved in this life, the grave of Galina Benislavskaya next to the grave of Sergei Yesenin.

Galina occupied a special place in the life of the poet, she always loved her madly, as if from a distance, and perceived it as it is.

Their acquaintance lasted five long and painful years for Galina. All this time she was actively engaged in his literary affairs. It was she who was his volunteer and personal secretary, led all negotiations with leading editions and editions under contracts. Galina always tried to give him advice that terribly bore the freedom-loving poet, maybe these disagreements gave a serious break in their connection. But nevertheless, when he was near, she was immensely happy. Despite such a strange relationship, Yesenin dedicated her poems to Galina Benislavskaya as a beautiful girl with an oriental appearance. The poetic lines ended like this:

Shagane you are mine, Shagane!

There, in the north, a girl too,

She looks terribly like you,

Maybe he thinks about me ...

Shagane you are mine, Shagane!
