Funnel and keeled deformation of the chest

Under the deformation of the chest is a change in its correct physiological form. This pathology can be both an innate disease, and acquired. The thorax is a kind of skeleton of the trunk, consisting of osteomuscular tissue. Its main function is the protection of internal organs. Therefore, any modification of the chest will inevitably cause certain disorders in the work of the heart, lungs, etc.

Congenital deformations in medical practice are quite common, their appearance is due to abnormalities in the development of the ribs, spine, scapula, sternum, muscle tissue.

The two most common types of this disease are funnel-shaped and keel-shaped deformation of the chest. These diseases are congenital pathologies of development of musculoskeletal tissue. Subsequently, these defects can lead to underdevelopment of the sternum, ribs, muscles.

The funnel-shaped deformation

For this type of disease is characterized by a hollow thorax. This defect, which poses a danger to human health, can have a significant impact on the normal functioning of the lungs and heart.

Scientists believe that the funnel-shaped breast can be formed in prenatal development. The danger of the appearance of this pathology increases in the presence of the fetus podkridinnoy ligament, dysplasia, underdevelopment of rib cartilage.

There are several degrees of development of the keel-like form of the disease, depending on the depth of the chest of the chest:

  • 1 - about two centimeters;

  • 2 - not more than four centimeters;

  • 3 - more than five centimeters.

At the first and second degree, the deformation does not cause disturbances in the work of the respiratory and cardiovascular systems. It creates only cosmetic and psychological inconveniences. At the third degree of the disease, functional disorders of the body's basic systems are inevitable.

Kiel deformation of the chest

In the people this disease is called "chicken breast". In people with this diagnosis, the chest protrudes outward. Being exclusively an aesthetic defect, this specific feature usually does not pose a particular danger to the health of the patient.

However, in some cases, the keel-like deformation of the chest can cause the need for a surgical intervention. Elimination of pathology is carried out with the following indications:

  • Disruption of the internal organs: lungs, heart, trunk vessels;
  • The emergence of problems associated with adaptation in society. This specific disease can cause the development of an inferiority complex in the child , in view of the fact that the surrounding children try to avoid communicating with him. Gradually, this can lead to the isolation of the baby in society.

Parents usually notice a pathology in the development of the musculoskeletal tissue of the baby quite early. Funnel and keeled deformation of the chest are subject to correction both surgically and conservatively.

Traditional methods of treatment involve the use of corset, orthoses, vacuum, application of exercise therapy procedures and pressure on the keel with special devices. The patient is recommended to engage in several sports: rowing, volleyball, swimming, basketball. And specially selected exercises can stop the further course of the disease. However, the application of these methods of treatment in practice is considered ineffective.

With a pronounced deformation, surgery is the most effective method of repairing a defect.

In medical practice, there is often a flat chest. This pathology is absolutely safe for human health, it does not cause disturbances in the functioning of the organs of the chest cavity. Deformation occurs due to uneven growth of the chest, in which its antero-posterior size is less than the norm.
