Fethiye, Turkey

One of the most beautiful resort towns of hospitable Turkey is Fethiye. Located at the foot of the mountains, which are covered with turbulent vegetation in the form of pine and cedar forests. The city originated on the site of the ancient settlement of Telmess on the slope of the Mendoza mountain base. Earlier in Lycia Telmess was considered one of the largest settlements. There is a beautiful legend, according to which Apollo fell in love with the daughter of King Finike named Agenor. The couple had a son, he was called Telmess. The rich past of the region, sometimes not quite calm, is still witnessed by the fortresses, which belonged to the Knights of Rhodes, but now exist in the form of ruins. Nevertheless, even today they majestically rise above the bay.

It is interesting that the Fethiye Valley is unstable in the seismic sense, as there were several large earthquakes that in the past eliminated whole settlements. But they rebuilt anew, becoming more beautiful from year to year. Gradually turned into large commercial cities. In 2012, during the summer, an underground tremor occurred in the valley territory, which was felt in Marmaris and distant Antalya. But the victims and the destruction was not. Tourism is not affected by the activity of the region in this respect. The wild and pristine nature is more attractive for travelers. Its modern name Fethiye received the name of the deceased Turkish pilot - Fethi-bey.

Fethiye is a European resort. He is especially fond of Danes and Dutch, and also of the British. With what it is connected, it is difficult to say. Russians in Fethiye are relatively few, but it is worth noting that the cost of tours to this region is higher compared to the rest. It has already been mentioned that Fethiye suffered several earthquakes, which, alas, destroyed the monuments of ancient culture. But on the slopes that descend to the bay, you can distinguish the tombs of Lycia. This people preferred to bury their dead in the crypts, which are quaintly decorated. According to their beliefs, such burial as much as possible approached the deceased to the Gods and the heavenly kingdom. At the foot of the mountains buried those residents who were less prosperous. Their cemetery resembles gravestones, without any drawings, patterns. They are simple and uncomplicated. Fethiye is rightfully proud of its fortress, which was built in the distant 15th century. From its foot you can see the most wonderful panorama of the bay and the city itself. On the outskirts of the city you can see an ancient amphitheater that has remained unscathed to the present day. And till now it hosts concerts and festivals. Also the city is famous for the Greek Orthodox Church and the ancient mosque.

The central embankment of the resort is the concentration of shops and benches, cafes and bars. In addition, there are discos and nightclubs. In particular, the most famous club "Lykia-disco" will help to relax and dance a lot.

For those who like sea voyages, diving and fishing are offered, as well as a floating restaurant with live music. Sea trips are good in that they allow you to get to know the depths of the resort with its Valley of Butterflies or the village of Kabak Cayu.

Despite the fact that Turkey is washed just four seas, the most amazing place to relax is the village of Oludeniz. It is located at a distance of 15 kilometers from Fethiye. The name of the settlement in Turkish means "dead sea". Local residents called their village that way. And it happened because his narrow bay is surrounded by high mountains, from the Mediterranean Sea - a sandy scythe. The wind does not disturb the valley, and the sea is constantly calm. Because of this, the water acquires an almost transparent bluish-blue hue! On the territory of the village is the natural park of the Blue Lagoon. The coastal zone of the village is divided into three zones: Kidrak beach, Patara and Laguna. In 2006, Patara won the award as the best beach in the world. The award was issued by the British edition of the Sunday Times. Kydrak beach tourists from Europe call a paradise beach for its privacy and beauty.

One of the places of attraction of tourists from all over the world is Mount Babadeg, which has a height of 1865 meters. The wind rose and topographical features of this place made it the central part of all arriving pilgrims to the territory of Turkey. In total, the mountain has three separation points, represented by the highest and lowest point. In the middle there is an intermediate mark. Every year in October there is a festival of aerial games. And also you can look at the colorful show: competitions in group jumps and aerial acrobatics.
