Karl Bryullov (1799-1852), the brightest representative of the family of artists and architects Bryullov, studied at the Petersburg Academy of Arts of the Emperor himself from 1809 to 1821, during which he remained the best student. His sepia (drawings, close to watercolors, but made in brown shades), among which the brilliant "Mountain hunters", like other famous paintings by Briullov, are known all over the world.

Here, in Italy, the artist met with Countess Yu. Samoilova, who for many years became his friend, muse and model. Painting Bryullov "Horsewoman" - a horse portrait of Samoilova - became a recognized masterpiece of world painting.

The painter from childhood was not very healthy. The years (1836-1843), held in St. Petersburg, did not contribute to its strengthening. And the painting of the Grand Dome of St. Isaac's Cathedral completely undermined it. In 1849 Bryullov left Russia forever and, after visiting Madeira, settles in Italy, with his friend A. Pittoni, a colleague of Garibaldi. Portraits of members of this family and some paintings written at that time are kept in private collections to this day.

The most famous paintings, for example, "Bakhchisarai Fountain" (1849), also contributed to the world recognition of the artist.
