Ethics of science as a fundamental characteristic of scientific activity

Science is developing rapidly. The opening follows the opening. Almost daily emerging new technologies allow us to radically change not only objects and adaptations that make life easier for people, but also to change the person beyond recognition.

We can already transplant hearts, sew the lost limbs, completely change the appearance. The question arises: what next? How far can scientists go in their attempts to transform the world and us? Will all discoveries be used for good? Do they all benefit humanity?

Today is the time to talk about the ethical side of scientific discoveries. Ethics, as is known - one of the disciplines of philosophy, studying the phenomena of morality and morality. Ethics of science - one of the sections of professional ethics. Its task is to develop the moral principles of scientific activity.

Today we mean that the concept of "scientific ethics" includes two aspects: external and internal. The first deals with the social responsibility of scientists to society, determines the relationship between society and science.

The second aspect regulates the internal relations existing in the scientific world. The internal ethical problems of science are very, very diverse. These include:

  • Teaching;
  • Consulting, scientific assistance;
  • Popularization of achievements and discoveries;
  • Examination and review;
  • Solution of questions about plagiarism and authentic authorship;
  • Monitoring of scientific activities;
  • The analysis of negative results, the decision of questions on their publication.

In the light of these problems, an unwritten code emerged that defines ethical requirements for scientists and their activities.

The ethics of science recognize the high role of the scientist in society. It is due to its high position, its intellect, that all people engaged in scientific research are obliged to bear moral and social responsibility for the results of their activities, their own morality. Scientific activity must be disinterested, not subject to conjuncture. You can not put pressure on her, you can not give in to it.

The ethics of science argue that the justifications, the proofs of all the results must be extremely honest, verified, not allowing forgery, juggling of facts, other deceptive techniques. The scientist must avoid chasing the sensation, striving to produce a cheap unreasonable effect. Plagiarism from the point of view of ethics is recognized as a crime.

The ethics of science do not in any way limit the freedom of search. In science there are no areas prohibited for research. However, scientists must monitor the fate of their discoveries, be responsible for their application.

The global problems of our time require from the scientific community especially demanding and critical to evaluate cognitive and practical activities.

Today, science completely lacks moral or moral criteria that regulate emerging developments from the point of view of social consequences. There are no rules that determine how far the achievements correspond to the state of society.

As a result - the emergence of individuals who allow the use of scientific results in criminal activities, helping to arm the military (and bandits, terrorists) with weapons of mass destruction. Much more has become the researchers manipulating the consciousness of people. There are many examples of this: the latest weapons, genetic experiments, experiments with the memory of people, etc.

Is it necessary to limit research? No. Do we need to monitor their morality? Undoubtedly.

To ensure that scientific discoveries do not threaten people, but serve only for good, and there is the ethics of science.
