Earthquake in the Kemerovo region: the causes

Some time ago, residents of the Kemerovo region experienced the effects of natural cataclysm, which scientists once was called an earthquake. However, his "echoes" were heard even in the Novosibirsk region and the Altai Territory.

At the same time, experts are ambiguous in assessing why an earthquake occurred in the Kemerovo region. Some are convinced that the cause of the tremors were atmospheric and natural phenomena, while others believe that the cataclysm was due to the fact that the extraction of minerals began. If the true reason lies in the human factor, then the earthquake in the Kemerovo region is the largest cataclysm of anthropogenic nature that has occurred in the last century.

Of course, there were many experts who believe that the tremors were caused by natural changes in the atmosphere. Scientists have estimated the magnitude of the phenomenon in seven points. The head of the local branch of the geophysical service of the SB RAS, Alexander Emanov, considered the earthquake in the Kemerovo region as the largest seismic event of the century.

"The area of technogenic impact is characterized by an abundance of arched rock formations, while the crust is simply weakened. The symbiosis of technogenic processes and natural phenomena has caused a cataclysm, since it is the combination of the two above-mentioned factors that is considered a dangerous situation, "the expert said.

Alexander Emanov also added that this earthquake in the Kemerovo region has the character of an extraordinary natural event, because underground tremors with a magnitude of more than four points in the above region were not observed.

"In the Kemerovo region, mining operations are constantly being carried out, as a result of which voids are formed, and the existing load moves to the upper regions of the earth's crust. It is not ruled out that a situation will arise when in some layers a tremendous strain is generated that will lead to tremors, "said Aleksey Zavyalov, who runs the continental seismicity and seismic hazard laboratory of the Institute of Physics of the Earth, in an interview. Schmidt.

Mass media, transmitting the news of the Kemerovo region about the earthquake, quote the words of the head of the geophysical department of the SB RAS Viktor Seleznev: "The tremors arose from the fault of the person, while his activities can be assessed as positive. If tension develops in the bowels of the earth, then discharge will sooner or later happen, and a person, by blowing up or doing something else, being in a risk zone, contributes to the fact that the earthquake happens faster and with less force. "

At the same time, the expert negatively views the view that human intervention in natural phenomena is of positive significance. "If the list of mining works was expanded, it is possible that already today there was an earthquake again. When a person stops mining natural resources, earthquakes will occur much less often, "he said.
