Drops in the eye

Eye drops are used to treat or eliminate discomfort, for example, dry eye syndrome and so on. Depending on the disease that they are intended to treat, drops in the eyes may contain steroids, antihistamines, sympathomimetics, beta receptor blockers, parasympatholytics, prostaglandins, anti-inflammatory non-steroid drugs or local anesthetics. They sometimes do not contain medicines and are designed for lubrication, approaching the composition in tears. With their use, there is a lower risk of adverse reactions than with oral (oral) medications. And such risks can be minimized by pressing the inner corner of the eye for a short time after instillation of the drug.

Eye drops, which include steroids and antibiotics, are used to treat eye infections. They can also be used to prevent infections after surgery in this area. Droplets in the eyes are suitable only before the expiry of their validity period. After cessation of treatment, a relapse of infection is possible. Preparations containing an antibiotic are prescribed for conjunctivitis caused by bacteria, but not by viruses. In case of allergic conjunctivitis, artificial tears help to reduce the concentration of irritating allergens present in the tear film. Some eye drops contain antihistamines or anti-inflammatory non-steroid drugs that suppress cellular reactions to allergens, including aerosol dust particles. As such, children's eye drops are not used. Usually, the doctor prescribes to the kids the same drugs as the adult (provided that there are no contraindications for the children), but only in the appropriate dosage.

Eye drops are used to relieve the symptoms of glaucoma. They improve the drainage of chamber moisture, located between the cornea, the lens and the iris, and reduce the intraocular pressure. Drops in the eyes that are prescribed for glaucoma are classified by active ingredients and may contain synthetic analogues of prostaglandins, beta-blockers, alpha-agonists and inhibitors of carbonic anhydrase (class of diuretics). They are also used in combination with various medications for those patients who require the complex treatment of several diseases. For the treatment of glaucoma, "ARUTYMOL" drops are used, which is dispensed by prescription. Produced in polyethylene bottles of 5 ml (packed in 1 piece in a cardboard bundle).

The most common causes of dry eye syndrome are exposure to wind, sun, heating and air conditioning, computer use, reading or other activities related to eye strain. There is a wide range of artificial eye drops, approaching in composition to tear and providing wetting of the surface with dry eye syndrome. Drops from the dryness of the eyes act differently, so you should try different artificial tears to find the drug that best eliminates the problem.

Such drops may include one or more of the following: carboxymethylcellulose, dextran, glycerin, hypromellose, polyethylene glycol 400, polysorbate, polyvinyl alcohol, povidone or propylene glycol. Getting in the eyes, they help keep them moist, protect from damage and infections, and reduce the symptoms of dryness in the eyes, accompanied by burning, itching and feeling, as if something is interfering. Dry eye syndrome is treated with drops of "natural tear". The sale comes in plastic bottles-droppers with a volume of 15 ml (1 unit per pack) with a dispenser, are dispensed without a prescription.

To drip the medicine, you need to tilt your head back, look up and pull down the lower eyelid to form a "pocket", to drip into it a drug prescribed by the doctor. Then look down and slowly close your eyes for one or two minutes. Then put your finger on the corner of the eye near the nose and lightly press. Those who wear contact lenses are advised to take them off before using most types of drops. Before using the drug against dry eye syndrome, you should make sure that you can wear contact lenses during treatment. If the condition persists unchanged for three days or if there are worsening, it is necessary to consult a doctor. Dry eye syndrome is not completely cured, but the symptoms will be greatly relieved when using artificial tears.
