Origin

Dmitry Zimin's family has a long and worthy history. His ancestors were representatives of the famous Moscow merchant family Guchkov, who, in turn, came from the old-believing family of the owner of the textile factory. In the family there were many successful entrepreneurs and merchants, several prominent public and political figures. On the Zimin side, the genus also originates from the owners of the weaving manufactory, there were many philanthropists in the family. The entrepreneurial and patronage tendencies were inherited by Dmitry Zimin. The nationality of his mother is the only deviation from the Russian branch. But Zimin adequately continued the work of his ancestors, not disgraced famous names.

In the family of an engineer-metrologist and a simple typist in 1933, a boy was born-Dmitry Zimin. Biography of the child from the very beginning was overshadowed by the arrest of his father. He was an associate professor at the Institute. Bauman and the head of the laboratory of the Institute of Metrology, in 1935 was arrested and exiled from exile. The boy grew up with his mother, who struggled to provide his son with a worthy existence, and later Dmitry will remember that he grew up to the sounds of a typewriter. He was formed in the usual Moscow environment, but he was lucky with the teacher of physics - SM. Alekseev, who was able to attract the boy radio, they even wrote a joint book "School VHF station." This determined the choice of the profession. In 1950, Zimin entered the Radio Engineering Faculty of the Moscow Aviation Institute.

Science and life

At the end of the university Dmitry Zimin comes to work in the Problem Laboratory of the MAI and begins his journey into science. In 1962 a young and promising scientist was invited to the closed Radio Engineering Institute of the Academy of Sciences of the USSR - a place where only really outstanding employees were accepted. In 1963, Zimin defended his Ph.D. thesis and engaged in a little-studied topic - microwave antenna systems. With a team of co-authors in 1965, he received the prestigious Prize of the USSR Academy of Sciences. A.S. Popova. In 1984 he became a doctor of technical sciences. For 35 years Dmitry Zimin held senior positions at different levels and grew to the director of the Center for the Development of Radio Equipment. During his life, the scientist published more than 100 scientific works.

But science did not interfere with the private life of the scientist. Working off after the institute on archaeological excavations, he met Maya Pavlovna, a historian, who became his wife. The family had two sons, Sergei and Boris. Together with his wife Zimin loves to engage in historical research and building a genealogical family tree.

New benchmark: "VimpelCom"

In the 90 years of the 20th century, science is going through hard times. The institute is looking for opportunities for conversion, and this wave creates a variety of small businesses. Zimin also takes part in several projects, not all of which were successful. In 1991, the topic of development of cellular telephone communication is gaining relevance, and Dmitry Zimin, the activity of which was connected with the technical support of general-purpose land communications, begins to work on the design work. He becomes the initiator of the creation of the joint stock company "Vimpel-Communications". From this moment a new stage in Zimin's life begins, he heads a company that is growing rapidly and becoming the leader in the cellular communications market. He was able for the first time in the history of Russia to attract serious Western investments for the development of VimpelCom. In 2008, Zimin became 167th in the list of the richest people in Russia according to the magazine "Finance". In 2001 Dmitry Zimin makes an astonishing decision - he resigns from the post of general director and becomes honorary president of VimpelCom. His decision, he explains that it's time to do business for the soul and the family.

Dynasty

After retiring from the leadership position, Zimin founded the Dynasty Foundation, which is called upon to develop science, propagate fundamental knowledge and education. The family charity fund implements a large number of social programs, prints and distributes a huge amount of educational literature, it supports scientists, educational institutions, journalists, opposition politicians. Actually, this was the reason that the fund was called a "foreign agent" in 2015. In this case, the founder has taken for himself the only possible decision to eliminate the "Dynasty". "Dynasty" employees open the "Evolution" and "Trajectory" funds, but they can not compare with the scope of the Zimin fund. The outraged patron left Russia, but intends to return with time to continue serving his homeland.
