Desires and needs of people

The needs of people - this is a complex topic, which sociological scientists have been investigating for quite a long time. And this is really interesting, because our desires are often the root cause of committing various acts. Studying this question, it is possible to identify cause-effect relationships in human behavior.

There are many ways to classify needs. Even the school course of social studies today involves the study of the Maslow pyramid. It allows you to clearly structure all the needs of people.

The meaning of this scheme is to divide all human desires into spiritual, biological and social. They are all characterized in a certain way. The pyramid is schematically depicted in the form of a triangle divided into three parts. At its base lie the biological needs of people. These include, first and foremost, the need to satisfy feelings of hunger and thirst. In addition, the biological need of man is the need for clothing and a roof over his head, the desire to procreate and so on.

Only by satisfying the needs listed above, a person thinks about social. Only those who are full, shod, dressed and have the opportunity to sleep in their own home, will strive to communicate with other people. The social needs of people are the need for social recognition, for success in social activities.

It is interesting that for some individuals communication with others is much more important than primary needs. This, however, happens rarely.

At the highest, the third stage are spiritual needs. This means that, roughly speaking, having eaten your lunch and chatted with a friend on the phone, the individual begins to feel that he wants to create, develop, educate himself. These are the highest human needs, which manifest themselves only in certain conditions; this requires "soil".

But here again there are exceptions. After all, history knows a lot of examples, when artists for the last money bought canvas and paint instead of buying bread.

There are other ways of dividing the needs of a person into groups. For example, they can be spiritual and material. First of all, each of us needs a hearty meal and warm clothes. However, along with this we want the dish to look beautiful, and the clothes correspond to our aesthetic taste. So, material needs can be both natural and cultural. At the same time, two large groups of needs - spiritual and material - are also very closely related. For example, to write music, you need to have musical instruments, paper, pens.

Needs can be classified in several other ways. For example, they can be:

  • Individual . In other words, this is what is required at a certain point by a particular individual. For example, now someone dreams of eating strawberries or sleeping for 2 hours.
  • Group . The goal is sometimes important for several people at once. For example, in one of the houses the heating was turned off. All tenants will be interested in the administration repairing the heat supply system.
  • Important for the whole society . This, for example, is pure water. The problem of pollution around the world today is incredibly relevant. For this reason, everyone is interested today in ensuring that the water is suitable for consumption.

As you can see, a person's needs can be very different.
