Design & Ergonomics

Specialists in the field of interior design and architecture have a variety of reference data on overall design and design. Nevertheless, there is not enough available information on the interaction or correspondence between the human body and individual objects of the internal situation.

Available information is often based on sales data, some of which are not relevant or to the opinions of those who developed these standards. Basically, these data are simply not based on anthropometric data. This is easy to understand if you take into account the small amount of necessary data, the form in which they are presented, their limited accessibility for architects and interior designers and, until recently, the lack of a centralized source of such information.

In defense of the practical method, which lies at the heart of the design standards currently used, it can be said that the use of anthropometric data in practice can not replace a successful engineering approach. Anthropometry and ergonomics are considered as one of the tools of a designer or architect.

In recent years, the data of anthropometry have become more accessible, since they have increased interest from specialists in engineering psychology, industrial designers, equipment designers . Not always these data are presented in the form most suitable for use in architecture and interior design. Not always they help to solve specific problems. These data are still not completely mastered by designers and architects and require access to a large number of sources.

Despite this, it should be noted that such data become much more accessible both in our country and throughout the world. In connection with the expansion of space research and international trade and marketing of goods services, the growth of the population of our planet, it is expected that the list of such data will become wider. In addition, society is paying increasing attention to improving the comfort of life, so the very term "ergonomics" is becoming more popular.

One of the first sources in the Russian language devoted to the use of anthropometric data in the development of design projects for residential, office and industrial premises was the book by famous designers J. Panero, M. Zelnik "Fundamentals of ergonomics. Man, space, interior. Reference book on project standards. " On the pages of the book, the authors made a truly titanic work on the compilation of information related to ergonomics in architecture and design, as well as detailed instructions for the application of this information in practical work.

In connection with the above, architects and interior designers should have an idea of anthropometry and ergonomics and learn how to use them in designing.
