Decorative kohi. Cultivation and care

"Northern cypress" - this is the name of the cute one-year-old plant, which belongs to the Marev family. Kohia is really like the seedlings of a real cypress, and her fluffy panicles, planted in a row, form if not a hedge, or a green screen - for sure.

Separately, both leaves and flowers of the plant do not represent any interest at all: small, light green, narrow leaves, nondescript flowers sitting in knots. But autumn comes, and the plant is transformed. From emerald green it turns into carmine-red, and the onset of light frosts only add color to the intensity.

In our latitudes in ornamental horticulture a hairy variety of kohia is used, but, for example, in Thailand you can see a lot of plants with different bright colors.

Kohia, the cultivation of which does not cause great complexity, multiplies by seeds. They are sown in containers in March-April or early May directly into the soil, on a seedling bed. After the sowing, the soil is gently tamped or sprinkled with a very thin layer of a mixture of sand and peat.

Seedlings appear fairly quickly. Even small, they resemble fluffy seedlings of fir-trees. They are dived on one plant and a little later, when the danger of recurrent frost passes, and seedlings reach 10-20 cm, they are planted in a permanent place. At first, after transplantation, small and tender seedlings must be protected from sunlight, covering them with lutrasil.

If you want to have miniature fluffy trees on the site, then you need to know how to grow a kohya. The plant is unstable to frost, loves sunny places, but it can grow well in the shade. It grows on various soils, although it likes non-acidic, fertile ones. It can easily survive a short drought, but it is better not to exert stress on the plant. In more southerly regions, the Kohia is perfectly multiplied by self-seeding and its seedlings can be used immediately for seedlings.

"Northern cypress" is easily formed and perfectly tolerates the haircut, so it is used in single and group plantings and to create low hedges. Similar to miniature cypress, the annual Kohia, cultivated widely used for ornamental purposes, grows about a meter tall and preserves its beautiful appearance right up to winter. The greenery of the plant is bright and juicy, depending on the variety, it may be a greyish-green or yellow-green color.

But this is not the last interesting property with which the kohya is so rich. Plant cultivation is also used for landscape design. Its fluffy twigs do not change their decorativeness and become even thicker when they are cut. Landscape designers took into account such an extraordinary property of the plant and from it they construct real plant sculptures.

How to plant a kohi so that it has a decorative appearance? It is best on sunny areas with loose, fertilized soil, for in the shade the plant is stretched and its appearance slightly deteriorates. When planting between young plants should be no less than 20-25 cm. "Summer cypress" can also be planted in pots, containers and boxes, which are further exhibited on the grounds in front of the house, balconies or courtyards.

If several plants are planted in one container at once, then a rather magnificent and elegant bouquet will turn out. Different varieties of kojis with the onset of autumn acquire different colors and shades, from bronze and purple-red to yellow and purple. Planted side by side, they give a tremendous effect.

In addition, the kohia, cultivation and care of which is not very difficult, practically does not suffer from wind, rain or drought. Even with a strong wind, its bushes do not break, but remain unharmed. A pleasant plant in all respects, even in autumn, will not create unnecessary problems. From it you can get excellent brooms, it's not for nothing that the plant is called a snowstorm or a weed grass.
