Glue, scissors, paper - for quilling and flying fantasy!

What is quilling, and why does it need paper? The history of the origin of this type of paper creativity goes back to ancient times. There were periods of loss of interest in it. But the popularity of quilling has increased significantly over the last few years. Many do not know what kind of paper is needed for quilling.

Crafts created in this technique, will not leave anyone indifferent because of their unusual, light, uniqueness and grace. It turns out, perhaps, from the usual paper strips to create whole fantasy compositions!

A material for this magnificence is the ordinary leaf. The paper for quilling is just strips cut in a certain way. They can be a variety of colors and shades: shiny and matte, metallized, pearly. Can be tinted on both sides: one lighter, the other darker or with the effect of gradual color change along the entire length of the strip. Special paper for quilling differs from the simple in that it is necessarily painted in places of cut. This is necessary to create a high-quality application in the chosen color solution.

Quilling paper is most likely found in a philatelic store or in office supplies. There is not such a number? And this is not a problem. Paper for quilling with their own hands, is done quite easily and unpretentiously. A conventional colored sheet of any format is passed through a paper shredder, or simply cut by hand. The width of the strip can be from three to nine millimeters. Its length can reach about 30-60 centimeters. However, the work requires different strip sizes, both in length and width. In this case, ordinary glue for paper will help you. After all, sometimes in order to get a multi-color spiral, you need to combine several colors.

The paper for quilling should have a certain density. This is really an important aspect for such an elegant kind of needlework. If you had to manually prepare strips, it is better to use paper with a weight of not more than 60 grams per square meter (usually this information is present on the package). With such a paper it is much more convenient and pleasant to work. As a result, you get neat twisted details for quilling. From them you can create any conceived hand-made articles.

Although the paper for quilling is the main component of successful needlework. But, for the production of parts and elements, you will definitely need other tools.

This is a stationery knife, scissors, awl, stencils (templates) to form spirals of the same size. And also tweezers for holding and fixing parts. Adhesive for mounting quilling compositions.

The items are simple and familiar, but specific requirements are imposed on them for papermaking techniques.

Awl. It should be one millimeter in diameter. The usual awl has a cone-shaped structure. This is inconvenient for quilling. Ask someone to remove the cone. Or just take a metal rod of a suitable diameter and form on it a handle from the insulating tape. It should be convenient, since this is the tool most of the work is doing.

Tweezers. For the execution of high precision work, the tips of the tweezers must be sharp and as precisely as possible aligned. Particular attention is paid to the absence of any damage to the working surfaces: chipping, chipping, the presence of such leads to damage to the paper. The tweezers should be comfortable for the hands. This is necessary for reliable gripping of the tool with the least effort.

Scissors. Since they are used to cut the fringe on paper as sharply as possible, the pointed ends for them are also the main condition, as for tweezers.

Glue. To work in quilling, we need glue that does not leave marks on paper. For the initial level, PVA glue or glue stick is quite suitable .

For compositional marking, you should have at your fingertips a set of drawing tools: a pencil, a ruler, and also a compass, and of course an eraser.
