Cough treatment in adults and children

Cough is the main and most common symptom for known diseases of the upper respiratory organs. There are also a number of other diseases in which this unpleasant sign can appear (diseases and disorders of the cardiovascular system, disruption of the gastrointestinal tract, disorders of the nervous system, etc.).

Of course, medical treatment of cough in adults is not always required, since this way the body independently gets rid of foreign substances that have a negative impact. The main external irritants are cold air, allergens, inflammation, sputum in bronchi, hyperoxia, mechanical formations, congestion of mucus, etc. The frequency and intensity of cough in a person depends on the source and degree of the disease.
Therefore, cough treatment in adults depends on the cause of the onset. For example, to cure a cold, it is necessary to consult a doctor, since improper cough treatment in adults can aggravate the situation. It should be noted that even cough treatment in adults and children varies. For children, the dosage of many drugs is much lower, and some drugs are altogether contraindicated for a young organism.

There are several types of cough. Treatment of wet cough in adults is required for active sputum production, which affects the lower respiratory tract.
Dry cough causes unpleasant and painful sensations in the throat. As a rule, it appears at an early stage of colds, when sputum is not yet accumulated in the bronchi. It can be treated with an iodine mesh applied to the thoracic region. You can also rub your chest and feet with a mixture of hot pepper and vegetable oil (a third of a teaspoon of pepper and 2 tablespoons of oil). Effectively helps to warm up the airways fir oil, which should rub your chest and back (preferably at bedtime). It is considered to be an effective mixture of grape wine and pepper. For 2 glasses of white wine, take 1-2 tablespoons of dried pepper roots, after which the mixture boil and cool. Take half a cup several times a day. Of course, this method is not suitable for cough treatment in children, since the composition of the recipe includes alcohol.
To decide what to cure a cough in an adult, you should determine the stage of coughing, since this can be an acute or chronic form. As a rule, acute cough occurs with colds, pneumonia, foreign objects entering the respiratory tract, pleurisy, whooping cough, etc. The chronic form is found in oncological processes in the lungs, bronchial asthma and / or bronchitis in chronic form, mental disorders, the taking of some medications.

Very often a chronic cough is a negative consequence of smoking. To get rid of this symptom, you can brew with boiling milk the roots of a forest marshmallow and take three times a day for half a glass.

When the upper respiratory tract is affected, inhalations with the addition of medicinal preparations or broths of various herbs help. The most common herbs used to treat dry and wet cough are mother-and-stepmother, sage, chamomile, eucalyptus, thyme. Also during the course of treatment, it is advisable to give the patient an abundant drink, which contributes to the normalization of the body's water balance and leads to a rapid dilution of sputum. Optimal options are herbal decoctions, therapeutic teas, fruit drinks and compotes of fresh and dried fruits and vegetables. If the sputum is viscous enough and remains for a long time, take special preparations (expectorant and mucolytic action). Of course, their appointment can only appoint a doctor who watches a sick person.
