Correct lighting of the workplace

Lighting the workplace is an important factor in the environment and the production environment. For normal work and life of a person, lighting, sunlight and light are very important. Conversely, insufficient level and low quality of illumination (especially in the process of performing works that require visual strain) are the causes of visual impairment among workers.

The norm of workplace illumination

The main characteristics of illumination are ensured by proper operation and proper use of safe lighting devices, as well as by strict state supervision and control of hygienic norms and illumination regulations.

Normative requirements for artificial lighting for enterprises were first developed, agreed and approved by Professor PM Tikhodeev in 1928. Since that moment, the normative magnitudes of the illumination have been reviewed many times, while the requirements to the level of illumination at the workplace and to the conditions for performing work related to the visual load have generally been increased.

Workplace lighting: the main types

To optimize working conditions, three types of lighting are distinguished: artificial (artificial sources of lighting and light), natural (sunlight) and combined (mixed), when the insufficient level of natural light is supplemented with artificial light. High labor productivity and visual performance of personnel are linked through the rational use of lighting in the production of works.

Workplace lighting: basic requirements

For lighting (regardless of the light source), the following requirements must be met:

- lighting in the workplace must be sufficient to provide comfortable working conditions and an optimum level of brightness for the functioning of the vision analyzer;

- ensuring safety during production;

- the uniformity of illumination in space and time should be such that objects and objects that have different reflectivity and brightness can be fully perceived by the visual organ.

Correct lighting of the workplace

In accordance with hygienic standards, for each type of visual work and for the efficient use of electricity, there must be an individual and adjustable source of lighting and light for certain parameters. This is due to the fact that it is the light that ensures the receipt and processing of almost 90 percent of all information.

The lighting of the workplace should not be blinding the eyes, even and sufficient at any time of the day. The most optimal variant from the hygienic point of view is when the good illumination of the whole room is combined with intensive lighting of the workplace. The fulfillment of these conditions increases the efficiency of the production process and prevents rapid eye fatigue.

When organizing workplace lighting, you need to make the most of natural light. In the permanent residence of personnel, general lighting should be installed so that light throughout the area is distributed evenly, or directly above each workplace.

Conclusion

To date, an important regularity and main trend of light sources development is their improvement, increase of reliability, safety, economy, efficiency and quality of light transmission. It should be noted the prospect of introducing compact fluorescent lamps with the possibility of adjusting the level of illumination based on infrared sensors with remote light control.
