Consequences of wisdom tooth extraction

According to statistics, only two percent of adults have wisdom teeth sprouting without any problems and occupy the right place on the jaw. All the rest have some troubles connected either with eruption or with the removal of third molars. And even those who were lucky enough to find a competent surgeon, often feel the consequences of removing the wisdom tooth .

Understanding the problem

Dentists in different clinics are ambiguous - some advise to delete, some discourage. The patient needs to understand what the situation is, in order to be able to make an adequate decision and to predict what it will turn out. Wisdom teeth erupt in most people between twenty and twenty-seven years old. In a quarter of the adult population, wisdom teeth do not erupt at all (they are in the bone). The reason for this can be that they simply do not have a place, or they have taken the wrong position. In many cases, the consequences of the removal of the wisdom tooth are associated with various complications. But often problems begin before the operation. This, in fact, pushes to decide on it. The eruption of third molars can be associated with a phenomenon such as the accumulation of food residues under the gum covering the incompletely incised tooth, which leads to bacterial multiplication and inflammation. Purulent foci in the mouth can be extremely dangerous. Not only do they cause chronic infection of the body, it also complicates the course of the recovery period in the case of surgical intervention. All of the above factors should induce any sensible person to conduct a timely removal of the tooth. The cost of the operation will vary greatly depending on the position of the molar, the presence of a purulent process, the general condition of the oral cavity.

The common consequences of tooth extraction wisdom

Immediately after the operation, the main goal is to maintain oral hygiene and prevent infection of the well. If it does happen, you have to drink antibiotics. Many surgeons prescribe them immediately after tooth extraction for preventive purposes. This reduces the risk of suppuration. But in the uncontrolled reception of antibiotics its consequences - this time for the whole organism as a whole - is a dysbiosis and harm to the organs of the digestive system. In addition, these drugs are a powerful allergen.

But the most serious consequences of the removal of the wisdom tooth are associated with the danger of infection of the maxillary sinus. After all, the upper molars very often penetrate into it with their roots. After their removal, the sinus message with the tooth channel and with the oral cavity remains open. This can cause infection and the development of inflammation. The treatment is complicated by the fact that access to the maxillary sinus (for washing and purifying it) is difficult for most people. Therefore, the first thing that a responsible doctor must do before proceeding with an operation is to send the patient to an X-ray. This will give a clear picture of the location of the roots of the tooth in the jaw and help prevent the consequences. However, it is impossible to completely exclude the possibility of the pathology of the maxillary sinuses after such an operation. Gums after tooth extraction, too, can start to worry: the operation often gives an impetus to the dormant chronic periodontal inflammation. Therefore, it is better to consult before the tooth is removed and with the dentist-therapist.
