Claude Berry - director, actor, screenwriter and producer

Meet the hero of the article - Claude Berry, a popular French actor, screenwriter, director and producer. For a long time he was president of the French Academy of Cinema. The father of film producer and actor Tom Langmann, as well as actress Julien Rassam.

Claude Berry, biography: the beginning

Born actor July 1, 1934, in Paris, a Jewish family, moved from Romania. Claude's father Hirsch Laghmann was a furrier, his mother - Beyla Berku - was engaged in housekeeping. The younger sister Arlett Langmann, born in 1946, became a screenwriter.

Claude Berry began acting in film in 1953. Acting in small roles, the young man was proud of his involvement in cinematographic activity, but soon it seemed to him little, and he began to dream about his own productions. The director's work attracted the young man as a creative process that makes the author famous and, moreover, gives a livelihood.

Berry Director

He firmly decided to try his hand at directing and in 1962 he shot a 15-minute short film called "Chicken". The film was so successful that it was awarded at the Venice Film Festival, and then was awarded the prestigious Oscar. For a young cinematographer, this prize is of great importance, since the director of a film that deserves a "golden statuette" becomes one of the best directors, and opportunities for further creativity open up for him.

In 1964, Claude Berry participated in the creation of a whole series of short stories, such as "Chance in Love", "Kisses" and others. The young director also made his first feature film in 1964. The painting was called "The Old Man and the Child" and was a resounding success thanks to the talented play of Michel Simon, who managed to create an inimitable image of the old anti-Semite. All orthodox, accumulated in the soul of the old haters, suddenly began to soften while communicating with an ordinary Jewish boy.

Do I need a chronology?

Claude Berry, whose films began to attract more attention, began filming a series of films, mostly autobiographical, although he did not try to follow the chronology. Such negligence brought the director, because any autobiography requires consistency in presenting the facts. Berry turned out fragmentary fragments, the meaning of which escaped. The director had a lot to do.

A series of paintings such as "Marriage", "Papino Cinema", "Blatnoy" still somehow survived the rental, but the "Illness of the Century" and "Sex Shop" failed miserably.

Something needs to be changed

In the end, Claude Berry began to understand that the subject of paintings needs to be updated. And in 1983, on the screens went out one of his best films called "Chao, a clown!". In it, he shot the popular French comedian Kolyusha, who gave him an unusual role, not comic, as usual, but deeply dramatic. In the course of the story, the protagonist, a former policeman working at the gas station, suddenly appears as a ruthless avenger. His job is to pay for his friend.

The following paintings by Claude are also serious films, including the screen version of Marcel Pagnol - "Jean de Flautret", Marcel Aime - "Uranus", the novel "Germinal" by Emile Zola, "Manon from the source." In 1996, Berry filmed the classic tape "Lucy Aubrac."

In addition to acting and directing, Claude Berry was successful in producing.

Cooperating with the company "Rennproduktsion", he took over the production of Roman Polansky's films: "Lover", "Tess", "Bear". Participated in the creation of motion pictures Milos Forman, Claude Zidi, Bertrand Bleu and Claude Saute. I gathered around myself a team of young directors: K. Miller, M. Piala, J. Duaion.

Among the films shot by the director for the period from 1965 to 2010, you can name several works that differ in their profound psychologism, among them "Just together" stands out - a film shot in 2007.

In the center of the plot are two loneliness, finally finding each other. This is a young girl Camille (in her role as Audrey Tatu) and a certain Philibert, her neighbor (Laurent Stocker).

She, as usual, moves to him, but then there is a third character, the chef Philibert, Monsieur Frank (the role is played by Guillaume Cane). There is a kind of triangle, not quite normal, but this is no less interesting. "Simply together" is a film about how to live, in accordance with the situation.

Literary nuances Berry overcame with brilliance. There was a temptation to enter the fourth character, then the postulate "just together" would sound different. The plot line in this case could be intertwined as you like. However, the author resisted, live four together easily, but you try to live "just together" threesome!
