Causes, symptoms and treatment of hemorrhagic cystitis

Cases of hemorrhagic cystitis are quite often found in modern medical practice. This disease is nothing more than an inflammation of the mucous membrane of the bladder, which is accompanied by the release of a large amount of blood, and sometimes even large blood clots. It is worth noting that such a disease is extremely dangerous, since it is fraught not only with blood loss, but also with obstruction of the urinary tract.

Hemorrhagic cystitis: causes

Of course, the cause of the disease can be both bacterial and fungal infection. But in most cases, the causative agent is one or another form of virus. Much less often the inflammatory process occurs as a result of taking certain medicinal substances. In addition, the cause of hemorrhagic cystitis can be severe exposure of the genitourinary system.

There are also some risk factors that increase the likelihood of such a disease. To such it is possible to carry:

  • Weakened immunity, because in such a state the human body simply can not fight the infection.
  • Non-compliance with personal hygiene.
  • Overexertion of the muscular tissues of the bladder, which leads to a violation of normal blood circulation. People often face such a problem, often having to ignore the urge to go to the toilet.
  • Disturbances of innervation of the urinary bladder.
  • Violation of the normal outflow of urine, which is often observed with inflammation of the prostate, the presence of tumors, narrowing of the urethra or the presence of foreign objects in the lumen of the urinary canal.

Hemorrhagic cystitis: symptoms of the disease

In this case, the clinical picture resembles ordinary cystitis. Patients complain of discomfort and soreness in the lower abdomen, and during urination pain becomes almost intolerable. Attempts to empty the bladder become more frequent - for a day they can be up to 40 and even more. But during urination, only a small amount of urine will be released.

The main difference is the presence of blood in the urine, which acquires a pinkish, and sometimes bright red color. Along with this, there are common signs of inflammation. The fever, weakness, dizziness, lack of appetite are also symptoms of hemorrhagic cystitis.

In no case can one ignore the disease or attempt self-medication. First, the constant loss of blood is fraught with the development of severe anemia. Secondly, with the further development of the disease, the separation of fairly large blood clots begins, which can easily block the urethra.

Treatment of hemorrhagic cystitis

Undoubtedly, first of all the doctor is obliged to find out what caused the hemorrhagic inflammation. If it is a bacterial infection, then, naturally, therapy with antibiotics is carried out. But, as already mentioned, the cause is most often caused by viruses, so patients are prescribed immunomodulatory and antiviral drugs.

In addition, you need to take medication that normalizes blood circulation. Patients also take iron preparations that treat or prevent the development of anemia.

In the presence of large clots in the bladder cavity, it is surgically irrigated with sterile water or saline solution. Some preparations of plant origin, in particular, "Kanefron", which gently regulates the urinary system, will also be useful.
