Cargo slings and their varieties

In modern construction, in many industries, in logistics and in production slings are used. Types of lines and their application can be different. Only their destination unites them. All of them are necessary in order to reliably fix the load during transportation or to render all possible assistance in lifting various building weights.

Today we will consider where slings and their varieties are used, and also we will talk about the significant advantages and some drawbacks of such designs.

What are slings

Slings are special devices that provide a better and more reliable grip of cargo, greatly facilitating the carrying out of various loading or unloading operations. Slings and their versions are used only for piece cargo. For example, KAMAZ with inert building materials with the help of a sling will not be unloaded, but a car with wooden beams or metal sheets is easy.

Types of Sling

These designs differ in their design. All types of cargo lines are divided into three categories:

  • Cable cars.
  • Textile.
  • Chains.

Chain slings

This category includes structures consisting of strong metal links. Such slings are compact and reliable in operation. They have a long service life. At any length they can be folded into a ring, and they will take up enough space. Metal links are practically not subject to wear, which makes investing in the purchase of such lines very beneficial.

As it was said above, the slings (and their varieties) are needed more in order to save the cargo. Chain structures are suitable for this as well as possible. In addition to increased strength, they have a sufficient margin of flexibility, which makes them almost universal.

The device made of cables has excellent resistance to various environmental influences, is not afraid of frosts and winds, and is also completely indifferent to the effects of chemicals and acids. Such slings and their varieties are most often used in heavy metallurgical industry, where high temperature, high humidity and various chemicals prevail.

Textile slings

The most popular, popular and often used are textile slings and their varieties. Prices for such designs are available. For example, slings one meter long and carrying capacity up to 500 kilograms will cost from 185 rubles. Long lines (from two and a half meters and above) and with greater carrying capacity (from one ton) will cost in the sum from 240 to 480 rubles. Everything will depend, of course, on the quality, the manufacturer and the store.

Textile structures can be used to lift absolutely any cargo. They are used to unload / load items that need careful and accurate transportation. For example, the painted cargo should not be lifted with chain slings - it is great to damage the coating. But textile structures will work much more cautiously.

The merits of such lines include ease, flexibility and flexibility. Work with them at any temperature and humidity. Such types of lines can withstand even the most severe atmospheric influences.

As for the shortcomings, the textile versions of the lines are not resistant to acids, alkalis and chemicals. At the metallurgical plant, for example, it is irrational to use them. It is also not recommended to use them, if you work with designs that have sharp edges.

Cable Ropes

The design of this type of sling is a tightly woven steel rope. These lines can consist of one or more veins. And the veins differ in their strength and thickness. At the ends there are loops or fixing rings.

Such designs are ideal for working with very heavy and large loads. Slings are strong, durable and reliable. Experts say that these devices have combined all the advantages of the first two categories. Abrasion resistance and lack of reaction to acids and chemicals rope slings borrowed from chain variants, but flexibility and convenience in working with absolutely any goods - from textile.

Cable ropes allow you to quickly assess your technical condition. Wear on these structures is visible to the naked eye. This allows you to replace the lines in time, thereby making the job safer, and the cargo - tighter.

Marking

When buying a sling, be sure to pay attention to the labeling. It is applied by the manufacturer and speaks about the quality and reliability of the structure. Carefully see that the marking indicates the load capacity, the manufacturer, as well as the number (series) of the product and the date when the tests were carried out.

Tests are carried out by each manufacturer of cargo lines. The body of technical control at the final stage of manufacture conducts special tests that show the suitability of the lines to work and confirm the manufacturer's declared characteristics.
