Broken jaw: symptoms and treatment.

The upper and lower jaws are part of the bones of the face and perform the basic function of fixing the teeth. Jaws are interconnected with the aid of a ligamentous-muscular apparatus. Their injuries occur quite often, and most often - with the lower jaw.

A broken jaw is a consequence of direct hits on the face, traffic accidents, sports injuries. It consists in damage to the jawbone by breaking its integrity.

If you have a jaw fracture, the symptoms are then very diverse and vary depending on the injury and the degree of its severity. First of all, the configuration of the face is distorted, mobile fragments appear, the bite changes. Particularly dangerous complications are breathing disorders, bleeding, pain shock. Timely X-ray can accurately determine the localization and nature of the fracture.

At fractures of the upper jaw, the fragments of the jaw are displaced downwards. It becomes impossible to close your mouth, close your teeth. There is a loss of skin sensitivity in the cheek region, lachrymation, edema of the eyelids. The unconscious state is the first sign of a concussion.

If the broken jaw is damaged in the lower part, then the asymmetry of the face appears , the chin is displaced, the bone fragments are mobile, the opening of the mouth is difficult, it is difficult to chew and swallow. In case of severe pain, a shock condition may occur. A dangerous situation is possible when the fragrance of the entrance to the larynx is closed. In this case, asphyxia develops rapidly, ending, in most cases, with a fatal outcome. The structure of the lower jaw has its own characteristics, so when injuries can occur numerous fractures - double, triple. In especially severe cases, the lower jaw can come off from the upper part of the skeleton of the face. Sometimes there is a rupture of soft tissues on the face with simultaneous occurrence of bleeding.

The broken jaw is treated differently, since the treatment of jaw fracture largely depends on rendering the first medical aid to the victim.

The first aid in case of injuries of the upper or lower jaw involves measures aimed at bringing the injured area into a calm state, removing the patient from a shock state, stopping bleeding. With fractures of the upper jaw, the lower maximum, closely, close to the top and perform fixation by any means at hand. In the case of a fracture of the mandible, the same manipulations are performed: the damaged portion of the facial skeleton is fixed with a support bandage. In the event of a tongue sagging, it must be carefully pulled out from the tip, then turn the patient face down so that there is no suffocation. In the case of light injuries, the patient is hospitalized in a sitting position. The referral to a special hospital is a forced measure for the purpose of normal correction of bone fragments.

The broken jaw is treated under stationary conditions. Bone fragments are juxtaposed and fixed, immobilization is provided with the help of wire nail teeth. Also used are polymer or wire filaments, osteosynthesis from metal rods. If necessary, the wounds are sutured, and with numerous defects, laminated wire stitches are applied. Fixation of damaged areas remains until their full splicing.

In case of correct combination of fragments, absence of inflammation, the fracture heals about 1-2 months. Tires are removed after the formation of a damaged dense callus on the spot . The final rehabilitation and restoration of all functions takes even more time. Control over the course of healing is performed with the help of a periodic X-ray examination.
